(Rating #1214)
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 grandgenie (259) - gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 12, 2009
Dégusté avec french tickler et agaguk le 4 juin 2007.
*On tap at Le Mondial de la Biere 2007* Murky bright yellow, very creamy and frothy white head. Aromas of sage, thym, honey, bananas and pinnaples. Nice effervescence, lightly acid and sour ... very balanced. Flavors of citrus, cereal, thym... Long cereal like aftertaste. I definitely enjoyed this one... I was told by Stephane Morin from effervescence that this beer was at 5.5%.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 rederic (2326) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 2, 2007
Sampled at Festival Bières et Saveurs, super cloudy whiteish- beige hue, with an off-white head, yeasty, milky, acidic, bananaish yoghurt nose, with a hint of cooked asparagus, and a faint fruity note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, wheaty, acidic fruity, milky sourness character, with a touch of tartness, wet grains, leading towards milky, citric, sour finish.
1.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 Glouglouburp (4772) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 11, 2007
Scary dirty white body (!!?!!) with no head. Might have been the body appearance playing tricks on my but I got milky notes with very ripe fruits. Almost rotten pears and bananas with unidentifiable spices. I understand this was an one-shot experiment with jurassic brewing techniques or something of that nature. It may have some academic value but as far as taste is concerned I really didn’t like the Potion Magique. Ils sont fous ces lavallois.

1.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Miguel (1181) - Saint-Ours, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 3, 2007
Robe blanche opaque sans mousse. Arômes âcres de malt rancis. Saveurs d’épices, de bananes et de céréales.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 MartinT (6340) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 2, 2007
My Bottom Line:
This spicy banana milkshake of the beer world is supposed to emulate the ancient hopless beers of Gaule. It may dead on for all I know, but apart from the history lesson, I can’t say I enjoyed it at all.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-The turbid white appearance certainly is disturbing.
-Grains and spiciness coincide, you have to give it that.
-The citric character, milky overseeing, chewable grain are astoundingly similar to the African sorghum beers I’ve been reading about...
-Fruitiness recalls pineapples too once in a while.
-This is not that bad as a drink, but as a beer...
On tap at the Mondial de la Bière.
