COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Multifaceted and complex this Brewers’ Private Reserve has been cool-aged in Zinfandel barrels acquired from our friends at Mt. Vernon Winery. With over 6 months of aging this “wine-strength” ale has been greatly enhanced by its long slumbering contact with the zinfandel soaked barrels. A bouquet of soft oak, plumb and raisin give way to a peppery zin profile which balances nicely with the sweet malt and gentle hop finish. If you can find the will power, cellar this unique Ale as it will continue to mature and reward.

Bottled. An unclear dark red beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of caramel, spices, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of over ripe fruits, malt, and caramel, leading toa dry finish.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06 pours dark copper. Nose big barleywine caramel malt, toffee, light wood, would almost guess bourbon barrel if blind tasting. The wine comes through in the initial taste, then the big malt profile. Toffee, raisin, then dank hop. Malty then high bitter finish.

22 oz waxed bottle from City Beer San Francisco shared with drsordr. Pours a dark amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet caramel, toasted bready malts, vanilla, the Zin barrel adds vinous character and wood, a slight tart character, fairly strange and I spent too much for it, but it’s another big beer.

2012 Version Appearance: Dark brown with beige head Aroma: Raisins and Bread. After a while I’m picking up some vanilla and barrel aging Taste: Malty and syrupy with toffee, vanilla, cocoa nibs with a chewy pruny finish. Overall: It took some time and warmth from the initial pour for the complexity to develop. The barrel aging notes are very subtle. Nothing terribly unique in the taste but a easy drinking barley wine.

I am going to vote no on basically every wine-barrel aged beer that isn’t a sour for the next few months. Weird grapey sweetness mixed with barleywine sweet malt character and a bit astringent. Blah.

Pours half a finger of head on a dark brown body. The aroma is musty wood with grapes... and a touch of lemon. The taste is dark, boozy with strong bitterness, molasses, wine notes and a dry wood finish. The texture is smooth and soft with low carbonation. Fairly nice. This was a 2013 bottle, which will probably smooth out with age.

2011 bottle, hand #’ered. Oh god what did I drink. I read barrel aged and assumed bourbon, when zinfandel hits my lips im shocked wretching in horror then the barley wine finish takes over and i’m back.. rinse and repeat over and over.

Bottle. Mahogony beer with a dark cream head. Red wine and light tart aroma with caramel. Tart and red wine flavor with light sourness and light caramel. Medium bodied. Tartness and red wine linger with caramel and light burnt sugar.
