COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after the isotope essential for nuclear grade weapons, this “Weapons Grade Ale” is the hop bomb you didn’t see coming! At 100 bittering units, PU240 captures the explosive hop flavor and aroma necessary to acheive a critical mass that you won’t find in other high-hop ales. A classified and combustible amount of Summit and Galena hops along with a double Dry-hop bombardment of Simcoe, Columbus and Nugget contribute to PU240’s high rate of spontaneous hop fusion.

On tap at Bobby G’s. Pours a darkish golden amber with a small white head that has pretty good retention and leaves a good amount of lacing on the glass. The aroma is pine and dank hops, some caramel, and a bit of cracker. Not a ton going on. The taste follows the nose with pine and dank hops, caramel, and cracker. Taste is quite bitter throughout with a strong bitter lingering aftertaste. Not very pleasant. A bit of alcohol as well. Medium carbonation. Medium to full body. Overall not that enjoyable of a beer. I probably won’t have it again. The bitterness definitely needs to be taken down a notch.

8 oz draft pour into a half pint glass at Auburn Alehouse. Slightly hazy golden brown/amber color with off-white head. Aromas of citrus, tropical fruit, floral notes. Tastes of citrus, syrup, tropical fruit, sweet candied fruit. Medium body with a dry finish. Pretty nice.

Clear orange-gold color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily to a film. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, citrus and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of piney hops, citrus and toasted malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a lingering grapefruit and hops aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

On tap at SF Beer Week Opening Gala. Pour is medium copper with a thin white head. Aroma and flavor are both less bitter than I expected with notes of grapefruit, caramel, and orange peel.

Sample at The Bistro DIPA-Festival, February 8. (my first one from this brewery) Clear amber with a white head. Aroma and taste dominated by grapefruit, citrus and some pineapple. Also light notes of malt. Nice bitter finish. A solid one.

22 oz. bottle, pours a cloudy orange amber with a small beige head. Nose brings out loads of caramel malt, resinous hops, tropical fruits, and residual sugar. Flavour is well-balanced between the hops and malt, with loads of resinous hops, pine, and caramel malt that doesn’t cloy. Extremely well-balanced, with a big piney bitterness that lingers on and on. Great IIPA.

Bottled (?): 09AUG12 – dunno if the date is botled on or best by…. Pours cloudy amber with a solid sheet of light apricot foam. Gobs of lace. Smells of tangerines, orange, grapefruit, biscuit malts, some bits of crystal malts. Flavor is sweet with a rounded bitterness and flavors of sweet toast and good amounts of fruity hops. Overall a little more malty than I’d prefer. A little full bodied if you ask me, subdued carb and a semi dry finish. Drinkable, wouldn’t seet out, for me it’s a little too hi ABV to want to sacrifice my face to it. Serving type: bottle 11-28-2012

On tap at the auburn ale house. Medium copper color. Aroma is primarily sweet caramel malt and some piney hops. Flavor is very similar with a sweet start that moves into a long bitter finish. Nicely balanced for an Imperial IPA

Wow! Perfect balance between its subtle citrus notes of grapefruit beside its caramel malt body, all followed with a huge blast of hops. There’s a creamy mouthfeel and utter smoothness. This is a huge surprise. Finishes beautifully with a beautiful combination of the 3 IPA core profiles.

Has a mild aroma of caramel and hops. Taste is full of caramel and a strong hoppy bitterness, solid beer.

Draft at the brewery. I’d definitely say this is my favorite Auburn brew I’ve had yet. Bit malted citrus aroma, piney. Flavor boasts loudness right off the bat, full of both hop and malt, blending the flavors pretty perfectly! It’s definitely something to chew on, but drinkable as is. Great brew!
