A perennial favorite! This is a very complex ale with alcohol approaching wine-like strength. Rich and intense malt and hop flavors that partner perfectly with cold winter evenings and cigars!

Draft - Dark brown pour with descent ivory head. Aroma of toasted cereal and grain, bit of sweetness and hops too. Flavor is like aroma, toasted and hoppy, very good. Mouthfeel is a bit thick but decent carbonation helps.

Pours slightly unclear dark brown with a thin, disappearing, light brown head. Awesome caramel, oak, bourbon, and candi sugar aroma. Taste is a little thin at first, but then the oak, bourbon and caramel hit and this beer gets huge. Great roasty sweetness to this beer, a lot like Old Stock Ale (one of my all time favorites). A little hop page comes through on the finish to dry it out just enough. This is a very well done beer. I can’t wait to get a few years on a bottle.

Burnt copper appearance. Nose is caramel and dark fruits. Taste is somewhat a blend between American and English style Barley Wines, with burnt caramel, raisins, malt and almonds. Very nicely balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Deep murky maroon with no head. Smells of bourbon, figs, dates and leather. Hoppy raisin taste very dry. Leaves a hoppy dry taste behind.

Aromas of molasses, toffee, raisins, prunes, deep malts, grapes, subtle chocolate, barley, and herbs. Appears a dark crimson with heavy lacing. Taste is toffee, red grapes, prominent wine, molasses, barley, roasted malt, prunes, raisins, dates and deep malts. Overall, very interesting. The combination of barley wine and wine is really impressive.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2008 This is dark brown, a bit hazy, with a medium but nice, dense tan head that lasts a long time and leaves a little decent lacing. The aroma is not very strong but is definitely a barleywine aroma, sweet, caramel malt and hints of alcohol, chocolate and fruit. The taste is on the sweet side as I’d expect, but not very sweet and has a light, pleasant bitterness near the finish. It has elements of caramel, raisins, and wine. At first, the alcohol seems a bit too evident, but then it settles down into a fairly pleasant, tasty drink with some good sharpness. It also goes well with food for the style, developing a light spiciness. However, it is a little bland for barleywine. I like it, it’s easy to drink and tasty, but it is a little lacking in the palate and aroma departments for barleywine.

Draft. Mahogony beer with a light cream colored head. Sherry aroma with some brown sugar. Sherry, caramel flavor with light stone fruit and brown sugar. Medium bodied. Lingering malt, just enough hops, and light sherry.

Tap at the brewpub. Very dark brown with a clingy beige head. Sweet malty aroma. Full bodied with mild carbonation. Sweek dark malt wtih a slight amount of bitter. Extremely smooth. A dark, heavy beer. Drinks really well.

Glad to see this one was on tap during my recent visit. Body is a rich dark brown color with a 1" beige head. Huge malty sweet aroma, thick with carmael malts, slightly mollasses-like....brown sugar, no noticeable alcohol. Flavor has some dried fruits/raisins, caramel, very sweet, light alcohol burn. Really nice b/w.

"not as hoppy as i like in the american style, falling somewhere between an english and west coast. very solid brew though. dark in color, with a pleasant but subdued aroma, great body, and nice malty, oak & caramel backbone. 1/10-this batch was all caramel and booze. very one dimensional and really not that good. hope it’s just an off batch or ages really well. 4+ for previous years, low 3 for this year’s."
