COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A perennial favorite! This is a very complex ale with alcohol approaching wine-like strength. Rich and intense malt and hop flavors that partner perfectly with cold winter evenings and cigars!

Glad to see this one was on tap during my recent visit. Body is a rich dark brown color with a 1" beige head. Huge malty sweet aroma, thick with carmael malts, slightly mollasses-like....brown sugar, no noticeable alcohol. Flavor has some dried fruits/raisins, caramel, very sweet, light alcohol burn. Really nice b/w.

Medium brown pour, very little head. Powerfully sweet and soapy aroma, some odd woidy notes. Flavor is sweet, some soapy notes, something is off.

Pours slightly unclear dark brown with a thin, disappearing, light brown head. Awesome caramel, oak, bourbon, and candi sugar aroma. Taste is a little thin at first, but then the oak, bourbon and caramel hit and this beer gets huge. Great roasty sweetness to this beer, a lot like Old Stock Ale (one of my all time favorites). A little hop page comes through on the finish to dry it out just enough. This is a very well done beer. I can’t wait to get a few years on a bottle.

On tap at the brewery. Pours dark brown with a thin beige head and sweet malt and alcohol aroma. There is a slightly sweet dry malt flavor with a warm alcohol trail.

Tap at the brewpub. Very dark brown with a clingy beige head. Sweet malty aroma. Full bodied with mild carbonation. Sweek dark malt wtih a slight amount of bitter. Extremely smooth. A dark, heavy beer. Drinks really well.

Draft. Mahogony beer with a light cream colored head. Sherry aroma with some brown sugar. Sherry, caramel flavor with light stone fruit and brown sugar. Medium bodied. Lingering malt, just enough hops, and light sherry.

Brown to black. Crystal. Some straw head. Sweet aroma, somewhat weird (shampoo?) Estery and fusel aroma. Strong estery flavor, sweet, almost cloying. Not thick enough for barleywine.

Pours dark brown with no head. Mild carbonation. Aroma is very yeasty with some molasses. Flavor sugary sweet and alcoholic, not a good carbonation. I also pick up some flavors of prunes and yeast. Body is very thick. Tastes almost as if it was underfermented. Not good.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2008 This is dark brown, a bit hazy, with a medium but nice, dense tan head that lasts a long time and leaves a little decent lacing. The aroma is not very strong but is definitely a barleywine aroma, sweet, caramel malt and hints of alcohol, chocolate and fruit. The taste is on the sweet side as I’d expect, but not very sweet and has a light, pleasant bitterness near the finish. It has elements of caramel, raisins, and wine. At first, the alcohol seems a bit too evident, but then it settles down into a fairly pleasant, tasty drink with some good sharpness. It also goes well with food for the style, developing a light spiciness. However, it is a little bland for barleywine. I like it, it’s easy to drink and tasty, but it is a little lacking in the palate and aroma departments for barleywine.
