Pours brown with thin head. Like all of the beers at this pub they are served ice cold. You need to give them a good 20 min to warm up before you can actually taste anything. Big aromas of roasted malt and toasted biscuits. Flavor is dry. Finish is clean. Pretty refreshing for a brown ale. Not bad.

On tap at the brewery. Medium brown color and very translucent. Aroma is pretty typical brown ale - some sweet malts and nuttiness. Flavor is a little more complex than the aroma lets on with some nice light roasted malt flavors as well as some coffee notes. Palate is extremely light. Overall a decent brown that would be infinitely better with a little more body - just too watery for my taste.

Soft nutty notes on the nose. A hint of roast and chocoalte. Brown/amber pour, soft head. Toasted nut flavor, hints of roast, light sweetness, chocolate. Earthy bitterness rounds out the finish.

Draught at the brewpub. Clear brown with a hint of red. The aroma is very toasty and I sincerely mean that. The only other quality i get besides toast is some fresher grain. The flavor has a good dose of toast as well, along with lighter caramel, and subtle hops. Light and crisp in the mouth. A decent session brown (does that make this a mild though?) but too toasty for me overall.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours reddish brown with a thin beige head and a malty aroma. There is a smoked malt flavor that is a bit thin, nevertheless pretty tasty, as well as some subtle hop bitterness.

Attractive dark brown, moderate, retentive head. Roasted coffee aroma with light toffee. Roasty coffee flavor, a little dry, a little rough maltiness. Light acidity from roast malt, appropriate bitterness. Nicely done easy drinker.

Draft pint at the brewpub. This comes across the bar with the appearance of a murky, river-bottom muddiness. But it drink with delicate balance that goes well with the awesome brick surroundings. The aroma and flavors are both earthy, with a light roastiness that is exceptionally drinkable. In the finish, there’s a earthy, gritty, fuzzy aspect that almost comes across like mellow raspberries. I’d like to see Brian do a raspberry version of it. Outstanding beer, and one that is exceptionally sessionable at 3.8%! (#3384, 4/7/2008)
