Bottle from Carrefour, Coquelles, Citi Europe 21.03.11 consumed 24.03.11 Pours hazy light brown with tan head. This was a real gusher out of the bottle, unsure why this was so, it had been left still for some time & lightly chilled. Some sweet malts and yeast, light fruitiness although this is a very slight astringent bitter note (chicoree) otherwise it is fine. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov13 3.1

Couple of pints at The Penguin. Pours a not especially attractive murky copper with a tall, lurid yellow-cream head that trembles like blancmange. Slightly sharp, yeasty aroma with suggestions of rhubarb, liquorice Allsorts (especially the purple ones) and...the pig pen. Bright and yeasty with plenty of rhubarb/apple fruit, a suggestion of spice, ladles of oak...and those Allsorts again. There’s quite a yeasty, autumnal English feel to this one, and it’s drinkable but a bit tedious by the 750ml bottle.

Brasserie Audomaroise, Saint Omer. Tap. This is the amber with some chicory flavour - slight coffee, nettles, endive, braised celery heart, celariac, brown sugar and raisins. Sounds good, but it’s all a bit blurry - and having a lot of flavours is not in itself a great thing, it’s how the flavours work together that matters. So, points for originality and being intriguing, but minus points for pulling away from being aesthetically pleasing.

75 cl swingtop bottle "Ambrée à la Chicorée". Hazy amber, nice creamy offwhite head. Grassy aroma, wet cardboard, sweetish fruit Quite sweet, some harsh bitterness, burnt caramel. Not as bad as their rhubarb beer
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 RichardGretton (3756) - Leicestershire, ENGLAND - DEC 24, 2005
Bottle. Brownish/red beer with a steady bubble based head. The aroma is quite fruity and the flavour tastes more like strawberry/raspberry than a chicory, with a bitter and slightly dry finish. Overall a nice beer.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 omhper (15956) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 31, 2004
Bottled. Hazy amber colour. Restrained, but very peculiar aroma, for which I struggle to find descriptive words. Fairly sweet, notes of caramel, salty finish. Ann odd experiment.

Amber, slightly hazy. Very thick, foxy head, fast collapsing. Nose is like caramelised, slightly burnt, bitterish. Faint aroma's anyway. taste is quite bitter, obviously. Chicory, not coffee. There's quite some malt too. Retronasal the bitter gets stronger. Mouthfeel isn't very full, despite the malt. A bit oily, specially on the palate. Aftertaste consists of burnt caramel-like flavour. As clearly all beers of this brewer, very restrained profile. With chicory, perhaps for the best.
