2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 TAR (2346) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - APR 18, 2013
Bottle, best by Feb. 2013, consumed in Nov. 2012: Gold body with blonde sheen. Jagged, big-bubbled head. Muddled nose of applesauce, caramel, bread dough, wort, and a hint of apricot. Spritzy carbonation. Very spicy, earthy and tealike, with sugar- and vanilla-infused caramel sweetness. Underlying red apple twang. Finishes musty with a note of concrete and unripe plum, along with the faintest touch of woody, spicy, licorice hoppiness to accompany the poorly defined earthy malt. Underfermented and unclean.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BlackHaddock (2350) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 14, 2013
Half-litre flip-top bottle: BBD 11 Jul 2013. Poured into a Veltins badged stemmed tulip three times, each pour getting more hazy as the sediment began to move.
The beer is a dirty brown to start, it didn’t want a head, but some white foam appeared briefly before falling in on its self.
Malty, yeasty and earthy in both the smell and taste, too sweet at times, too murky towards the end of the last pour and with a strange herbal undertone throughout. A sort of malty molasses soaked sack of potpourri is how I can best describe it.
Different and not unpleasant, one bottle however was enough.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Idiosynkrasie (1824) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - JAN 17, 2013
500ml bottle. Cloudy orangey golden colour with average to huge, firm, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Grainy aroma with subtle notes of husk, hay and grass. Taste is fresh pale malty, almost fruity with a subtle spicy touch of hay; decent bitter hop note in the finish; lively carbonation.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 3fourths (6932) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 14, 2013
bottle. I have to assume it’s in bad shape, but these beers don’t do well in bottles, generally. this one had an aroma which was nice enough, focused on toast bread and nuts, though too yeasty. developing aroma and sustained flavor of creamed, browned bananas and soapy and floral esters. nutty, toasty and frothy, as is a lot of German lager, but very unclean, yeasty and sludgy and acidic, even chunky, that word comes to mind.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 ElDesmadre (934) - Mikołów, POLAND - SEP 24, 2012
Bottle. Hazy amber with a head that dissipates rather quickly. Bready, toasted, light caramelly malty nose, with a fungus-like yeasty note and some wet wood. Basement aromas allright. Oh, some minor nuttiness, toffee and hops as well. Light sweet main part, outbalanced by a strong bitterness that is a bit overwhelming. Dry, nutty and toasted finish. A bit out of balance but nice enough.
