3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 bartlebier (524) - Baden-Württemberg, GERMANY - APR 30, 2013
75cl bottle just arrived from brewer@Geers, disconcertingly labeled BB 27/02/2011/70. - A vintage, haphazardly cellared wit, brewed with Orval yeast and under the auspices of Orval’s brewmaster? Don’t mind if I do...even if both bottle, amateurish peeling off label and cheapish plastic cork inspire little awe. Further caveats: "Entièrement conçue et fabriquée dans le cadre de ce projet pédagogique d’intégration, la mise en bouteille s’effectue également sur place et les bouteilles sont décorées d’étiquettes réalisées par des artistes handicapés mentaux." www.guidedesbieres.com/biere922/augrenoise.html Brewed for the good cause and bottled and labeled in part by the handicapped? Which isnjust how this bottle looks... Pours a lively watery straw yellow wity quickly disappearing white head. Aroma of dust, chalk, whiff of funk and acidity. Palate is dry like a geuze, with a hint of barnyard acidity. Typical almond wheat taste, complemented by tisane, almond sweetness, wild honey, subdued flower aromas. Not quite a light wild wit the same way Orval is not quite a light triple IPA saison. Drinkable and an interesting fusion of styles, hard to tell whether the BB was intended, an accident, or whether this is actually clandestine bottled Orval Vert...

330ml bottle (One Pint Pub, Helsinki, Belgian Beer Weeks 2009)
Bacony or off-cheese aroma. Pleasant carbonation. Pale gold. Bacon too in the taste, some wet wool. Refreshing, but a little thin and watery. Very brief wooly finish. Yeast quantity made no noticeable difference.
