Hendrix (14), Berkeley, Illinois, USA Sep 5, 2005 This was good when Monarch brewed it in Chi-town in the late 70’s early 80’s...
Point got ahold of it after Huber and made it FANTASTIC!!
Like a Good German Brew without the lingering bitterness....
Take one bottle of the Golden and one bottle of the Augsburger Dark and mix it...It’s da beer bomb!!
Like Beck’s only tastier and less bitter!
Good Job Stevens Point!! Jedsbrew (465), Rhineland, Missouri, USA Oct 12, 2003 This beer had a medium golden color with a moderate head and scant lacing. The aroma was grainy and slightly fruity. Medium bodied, fairly sweet and malty turning drier with some hoppy bitterness in the finish. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't try to duplicate the old Huber version, but still I thought it was a tasty and well balanced lager. JPDIPSO (4234), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Jun 27, 2003 Golden color with a decent light ecru head. Heavy sweet dough aroma with undertones of mild dry herbal/floral hops. Sweet maltiness envelops the mouth with a touch of corn as it warms. Quite effervesent, but just thick enough to prevent it from feeling like sparkling water. Malt gives way to moderate hops, a bit floral but not overpowering. Not a GREAT beer, but certainly a very balance and drinkable brew. jables (101), Champaign, Illinois, USA Mar 22, 2004 Sampled in my Arrogant Bastard pint glass just for grins.
Pours a clear golden color with a decent sized white head that dissipates to a sheet of white.
Smells of grains and some hops, but not much really going on there.
Mouthfeel is fairly thin and the flavor is dominated by grains with hops being slightly noticeable.
Finish is sweet enough to make the drinkability rise to quite a nice level.
Not the best lager by any means but very easy drinking.
MilkmanDan (1937), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Aug 17, 2005 Light gold. Nose toasty, sweet, a bit bitter. Flavor is some sweet malts, bready, a mite toasty. Decent hop bite. Surprisingly hefty, good palate, accentuates the malts. This was my dad’s favorite beer many years ago and it’s actually better than I expected.
