3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 kwoeltje (1842) - Manchester, USA - OCT 18, 2009
(draught - Fresh Hop Ale Festival at Schlafly Bottleworks) Medium amber with decent head. Pine hops aroma. Flavor was pine hops, some citrus, resiny.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Verecund (80) - North Carolina, USA - DEC 29, 2010
Notes from 01/2010.
This beer brought in 2010 for me, and did an excellent job doing so. On tap.
Sits a slightly coppered light maroon. Fantastic, creamy two-finger head.
This smells like fresh fruit on a picnic in a field. The Amarillo dry-hopping is heavenly; grapefruit juice, grapefruit pith, grapefruit! dominates the taste profile. It’s smooth crystal malt on the front, but finishes with a sharp bitterness.
Medium in body. Lower carbonation than most IPAs, with a dry finish.
I’m not one much for IPAs, though I don’t shy too much away from them. I typically like balanced, maltier/sweeter IPAs (think Hopslam), but this is an excellent example of the style when fresh. Vibrant, fruity, pithy.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 adnielsen (3704) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - NOV 2, 2010
Tasted on tap at Augusta Brewing in Augusta, Missouri. Darkish orange appearance with a weak aroma. More hoppy in flavor than a typical IPA with a good citrus.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 murawski (158) - USA - MAY 13, 2007
Tasted "American IPA" at St. Louis BrewFest, May 12, 2007, and is rated here:
Fabulous hoppy, grapefruit aroma, excellent color with a touch a haziness and nice suspension. I really enjoyed the well-balanced flavor and the smooth, rather soft mouthfeel.
American IPA rocks!
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 vyvvy (2877) - Florissant, Missouri, USA - OCT 7, 2006
Sampled at Augusta Bottoms Beer Festival 2006. Pours lighter color than normal for an IPA with a good sized off-white head. The aroma is pleasing with grapefruit and floral hops and some malt backing it. Body is medium with light carbonation. The taste has stale malt with woody hops and some weird sweetness. The finish gets staler and sweeter and there is a hop resin feel. This beer is dead on for a solid IPA with the hop profile, but the malt seems old and hampers the entire experience.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Terminus (2616) - Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA - NOV 14, 2005
tap at brewpub in Augusta, MO. pours light orange with a small off-white head. resiny, piney, grapefuit-very fruity hop aroma here. this is a hybrid beer to me-a west coast IPA meets an English IPA. some resiny flavors with a touch of grapefruit and a sweet malty base. light diacytl here as well unfortunately, which brings down the overall enjoyment of this beer. not bad, but a little odd for a harvest IPA if you ask me.
