Contract brewed since 1978 by Van Steenberge for the Augustinian monastery at Stephen’s Church in Ghent using the original yeast culture. Sold outside of Belgium as St Stefanus, after the church, to differentiate it from beers that may be made by other Augustinian communities. The monastery receives money from each sale.
Ingredients: Pale, Pilsener and Munich malts; brewing sugar; Saaz, German Hallertau; additional bittering hops.
Partially filtered after primary fermentation, then cool matured for four weeks. Filtered and then reseeded with Brett and another yeast, and warm conditioned for two weeks. Bottled and stored for a minimum three months before distribution.

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2016 Oranje, aardig uiterlijk. Jammer.

Darker yellow color with huge white foam head. Smells bit sweet, but taste is real tripel. Some sweet aftertaste, and long lasting bitter. (Velp 201201)

33cl bottle. Expiration date: 03.2017 Clear, orange color. Average, frothy and white head. Diminishing. Average lacing. First wheat and fruits. Later oranges, bananas. Well balanced taste. Light sweet, bitter and sour. Oily, sticky and little bit gritty mouth feel. Soft carbonation, little bit spicy, sometimes salty. There is a lot of things going on here in mouth. Maybe little bit too chaotic, but still I’ve found it interesting. Long soft dryness in a finish.
