Contract brewed since 1978 by Van Steenberge for the Augustinian monastery at Stephen’s Church in Ghent using the original yeast culture. Sold outside of Belgium as St Stefanus, after the church, to differentiate it from beers that may be made by other Augustinian communities. The monastery receives money from each sale.
Ingredients: Pale, Pilsener and Munich malts; brewing sugar; Saaz, German Hallertau; additional bittering hops.
Partially filtered after primary fermentation, then cool matured for four weeks. Filtered and then reseeded with Brett and another yeast, and warm conditioned for two weeks. Bottled and stored for a minimum three months before distribution.

Final fruits jaunes. Texture épaisse, carbonatation très fine. Assez longue en bouche. Une bonne blonde.

Bottle as St Stefanus Blond from Waitrose. Dark gold and hazy with a fluffy white head. Smells of yeast, brown sugar and bubblegum, but there is also a fairly prominent vegetal/plastic note. Sweet and malty, with some umami from the yeast. Buttered toast and a suggestion of tangerine. Nicely carbonated with a medium to full body. A decent and accessible Belgian beer at a low price.

Bottle labeled as "St. Stefanus Blonde". Classic Belgian flavor with some yeast spiciness and a clean, golden malt profile. Everything is accentuated by a lively carbonation that brings all the smells up a level. It doesn’t exactly stand out in the crowd of Belgian blond beers, but it’s a great example of the style.

Butelka 330ml.W UK sprzedawane jako St Stefanus Blonde.Bursztynowy kolor z biala mala piana ktora szybko osiada wokol tulipana. W zapachu dominujavowoce i drozdzowa won.

This beer really changes as it warms. I prefer it after it has warmed. Has a slight funky taste but I like it.
