COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Unfiltered
Contract brewed since 1978 by Van Steenberge for the Augustinian monastery at Stephen’s Church in Ghent using the original yeast culture. Sold outside of Belgium as St Stefanus, after the church, to differentiate it from beers that may be made by other Augustinian communities. The monastery receives money from each sale.
Ingredients: Pale, Pilsener and Munich malts; brewing sugar; Saaz, German Hallertau; additional bittering hops.
Partially filtered after primary fermentation, then cool matured for four weeks. Filtered and then reseeded with Brett and another yeast, and warm conditioned for two weeks. Bottled and stored for a minimum three months before distribution.

Golden blond, small head, lighter in taste, sweeter finish Not bad, but inferior to more famous belgian blondes.

Bottle from Tesco. Pours a hazy orange gold, initially with small head which sadly goes away quite quickly. Aroma is banana, slightly herbal, brow sugar, malt and a note of hops. Taste is medium to strong sweet but quite nicely balanced with a dry bitterness. Not the best beer I have had of this style but certainly quite good. I would like to put a bottle back for a year and see how a bit of age changes it.

Bottle, 7% ABV. Pale orange color, almost clear liquid, white head. Light banana smell, higher carbonation. Light aroma of bananas. Taste is light hoppy bitter, bland, watery. Alcohol is hidden. Poor.

Hazy straw-amber body, medium creamy white head. Aroma of belgian yeast, spicies, bread, metallic. Flavours of belgian yeast, fruity notes, grain, metal. Medium yeasty dry finish, slightly metalic. Medium body and high carbo. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Augustijn, or Stefanus or whoever did start that brewery (or is the patron of it) did a really good job! Though it doesn’t not belong to the Holy Trinity (which would become Holy Quadrity?), it is not far out: the beautiful copperish beverage delivers smoothly its qualities: a round and well-developed taste, light in aromas but a balanced bitter-sweet for an overall great degustation!

Bottle at Bank; clear amber pour with a big frothy off white head, aroma has sweet honey and some Belgian yeast character, taste has sweet some spice clove action, yeast, sweet honey, some bread dough, OK.

Assaggiata come ST STEFANUS BLONDE (6 mesi in bottiglia). ASPETTO: biondo carico, limpido, schiuma bianca, fine, abbondante e e persistente. AROMA: speziato, fruttato, intenso e interessante. Man mano che passano i mesi, diventa piů scura e acquista toni piů fruttati e dolci.

Hazy orange/gold color. Aromas of banana, some phenols, and alchol. Quite sweet with rich banana flavor and a touch of hops in the end. Good beer, but not amazing. Good "starter" Belgian.
