Rich and complex taste. Bitter tones here and there. Not one of my favorite dubbels, but nice to have once in a while.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from de Bierschuur in Poppel. The beer is dark red/brown and has a cream colored head, with nice carbonation.
The aroma is fruity with tones of dried fruits (raisins), red fruits but also caramel and a hint of smoke.
The taste is full and mild with hints of raisins and some bitterness from chocolate and cacao, nicely balanced.
The finish is slightly bitter and gently dry with a nice hint of warming alcohol.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap at Waterhuis aan de Bierkant, Gent. Near brown or dark ruby. Fluffy head. Seems malty in a nicely earthy and fruity way. Sugary and yeasty. Very smooth mouthfeel. It is quite sweet though. Misses the liquorice flavour I enjoy from some dubbels. Decent stuff.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle into chalice, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy ruby red/copper color with a 1 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, light nuttiness, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of fruity/spicy/earthy yeast and dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, light nuttiness, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of peppery yeast spiciness and slight tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, pear, apple, pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy/earthy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice dubbel style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy/earthy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
