Bottle. Amber color, medium off white head. Aroma of apple skins. Taste is a bit on the sweet side, summer fruits and caramel. Not bad.

Donkergeel, helder bier met mooie schuimkraag en gemiddeld koolzuur. Smaak is bitter hoppis en iets zurig, appel. Blijft lang hangen. Smaak heeft veel weg van Duvel.

Bottle. Hazy. Color is orange. Nice white head. Nose of fruits, citrus, spices. Some alcohol is the flavor. Some sugar in the taste. Nice Belgian Strong Ale.

the aroma is fruity and malty with shades of citrus fruits... the taste is fruity in the beginning, more malty in the ending... rather spicy with dry and warming aftertaste...

330ml bottle bought at Belgian Beer International in Tsuen Wan.

Cloudy hazy golden yellow colour with small amount of dirt like yeast sediments; Two finger head with crumpety white foams which lasts for 4 minutes; Excellent sticky lacing and fizzy carbonation; Fragrant aroma of bready malt, with banana, orange, pineapple, caramel, bubble gum, sugar, strong Bel yeast, light lemon and faint grass; Mid to light sweet taste of full malt, with metallic, light tartness, estery orange, strong caramel, molasses, phenolic, bread, strong Bel yeast, strong spices, light cloves, light lemon, and moderate to low bitter grassy hops; Mid to full body, thick and quite creamy palate; Mouth feel is fat, bready malt with strong ester and phenolic character, very spicy to the point of occasional saltiness. Initial sparkling metallic is not a problem with further sips, not much sweetness. Rich and yeasty but somehow missing that fruitiness. The 9% booze is slightly tasteable and is well hidden throughout. Good... Hoppiness is light lemon and fairly light grass in nose and taste. Bitterness is notable but still modestly low for a low-fi bitter semi-finish; Fairly dry after taste. Easy and slightly bitter to mouth.

Comments: On the brewer’s website, this one is described as something close to a Tripel. Sure enough it has the right pale colour, beautiful head, nice carbo, likeable aromas, wholesome maltyness and good booze. On the flip side, the taste is too industrial and lacks fruitiness, not sweet enough and not hoppy and bitter enough to be a good Tripel. Way better than Augustijn Blond, but as a BSA / Tripel, it still has some way to go to be taken seriously. Okay and for fun only.

330ml bottle poured into Kasteel chalice. A: Pale amber, half a finger head, good retention, some lacing, slight haze. S: Esters plus some booze. T: Heavy on the esters and diacytel, lighter on the molasses, touch of bitterness, similar to other Van Steenberge beers, kept the booze under wraps. M: Light, crisp and well carbonated, very drinkable for the high abv. O: I had wondered if it was a Bornem Tripel clone, but despite likenesses it wasn’t. If you like Piraat and the others you’ll enjoy this.

In a tulip. Pours a nice golden color with a wonderfully thick white head. Smells of apples, alcohol, spices, and yeast. Medium mouthfeel with a dry finish. Tastes of much the same, with a malty sweetness as well. An OK Grand Cru.

Pours a clear gold. Smells like sweet fruits and some sweet malts. Tastes follows the smell with a sweet fruitiness and a slight earthiness. You can barely taste the 9% alcohol.

Malt , hop and a whiff of apple in the aroma. Hazy yellow. Tightish head. Lots of carbonation giving some blazing acidity akin to champagne. Food friendly for the wild salmond I had with it. Very European.
