0.5 l bottle, thanks Jukkabro! Reddish brown color. Malty, nutty and slightly chocolatey aroma. Nutty flavor with dark bread, chocolate, licorice and hints of dark fruits. Nice dunkel, although much better on draught at Munich.

500ml bottle straight from Munich courtesy of my mother-in-law in Paulaner half litre. Dark amber with lasting head and lace. Toasted caramel grassy wood aroma. Toasted caramel wood nuts and mild smoke flavor with very mild finishing bitterness. Medium body with a little fizzy sharpness. Pretty good, nicely toasted, but lacks richness and fullness.

Bottled (from beerangel.de). Deep amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is caramel malts, some wood, mild roasted notes as well as some slight wooden sourness too. Elements are there but really makes a bad combination imho. Flavour is quite much the same with big time licorice coming through. Quite refreshing still. Nice palate, a bit sticky and quite dry, but yet biting carbonation and quite crisp and fresh.

50 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden red/amber with a huge tan head. Dark fruity and slight chalky aroma. Breadish and spiced flavour. Light roasted and mild acidic touch from this. Roasted malt finish, lingering acidic.

Bottle brown, 500 ml
Appearance: Pours deep red - currant to red - amber, perfectly clear in texture, beautifull body with gentle carbonation visible on the wall of the glass and big, pillowy, rocky, frothy head being very firm and long lasting with decent lacing. Head is off white and practically cappuccino like in colour.
Aroma: Very strong pronounced Munich dark malt of a very noble quality, coffee, candid, brown sugar, vanilla, all in all sweet but in an unoffensive way, notes of cacao and milk chockolate, dark bread, flowery hoppyness on top, slighty honey accents.
Flavour: Soft with very pronounced notes of dark chockolate, milk chockolate, brown sugar, coffee, slight roastyness, cappuccino, vanilla, gentle notes of yeasts, flowery hoppyness, chewy grains of Munich malt, finish duration is medium, gentel bitterness in the aftertaste.
Palate: Body is light to medium, texture is wattery, carbonation on palate is soft, finish feel is slightly astringent and slightly chalky.

UPDATED: NOV 4, 2013 Re-rate 11/2/13: Bottle sample at a tasting at Yoav’s place. Thanks Tom C. Lovely clear deep red-amber with a beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel and some weird stinking farty character. Sweetish caramelly flavor with something weird and unpleasant I can’t put my finger on. Medium-bodied. I think something might be wrong with this bottle. Score is not calculated. 4/4/4/3/8=2.3

(7/5/08) Draught at Augustiner Keller in Munich. Brown color with a medium beige head. Aroma of toasted malt and some caramel. Sweet caramelly flavor. Medium-bodied. OK. 6/4/6/3/12=3.1

Cask@GBBF 2008. Brown beer with a lightly malty aroma and a malty and rich flavour. Overall an average rich beer.

[bottle] Spicy aroma with some prunes, tobacco, banana notes and detectible hops. Clear brown-orange-black with tan foam that recedes to a ring. Sweet brown sugar, molasses and walnut flavour accented by some floral hops. Low bitterness, leaving the balance towards sweet. Just a touch too sugary. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, sweet finish.
