Bottle @ Home. Pours dark brown with a huge creamy offwhite head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, nuts. Taste is malt, caramel, nuts, dark fruit, light smoke. Medium body, soft carbonation. 020711

Roasted and very sweet. This was enjoyed on the trip to München, and unfortunately no written information is preserved.

Pours a deep mahogany with a huge creamy colored head. No lacing, but the head sticks around as a pretty nice layer on top. Bubbles continue to rise throughout the entire drink. Caramel aroma. Malty and bready. Tastes are all the same. A big caramel, malty sweetness that tastes delicious. Nothing off, and nothing offensive. Great dunkel. I look forward to catching these each year.

.5 Liter at a beer garden in Munich. Dark, clear reddish brown pour. Toffee, some dark fruits, bread, light nuts, and some hops. A nice drinkable dunkel.

Bottle (500ml) in Munich - An aroma consisting of roasted malts mainly with toffee and some general sweetness making for a nice smelling dunkel. There is also hints of chocolate making this a strong smelling beer that is very pleasant. A dark mahogany brown colour with hints of a dark amber throughout. The beer is clear and forms a large, off-white slightly brownish head that settles & slowly forms a thick lacing of a head. An excellent tasting roasted malt & nutty chocolate flavour and mild aftertaste that is almost bitter free. Hints of toffee throughout make for a well balanced beer. This smooth dunkel is medium bodied & very well balanced making it very easy to drink and quite crisp for a dark beer with no hint of dryness in the finish. A really nice dunkel & a welcome change from my usually preference of lighter beers. This one was easy to drink & would make a great tasting session beer. - - -

Öfter mal ein Augustinerbräu. Das Dunkle präsentiert sich mit einer herrlichen burgunderartigen Farbe und schönem Schaum. Es riecht malzig und nach Gebäck. Der Geschmack ist auch sehr malzbetont mit einer verhaltenen Fruchtigkeit als Unterton. Lediglich im Abgang baut das Bier etwas ab. Erneut ein gelungenes Produkt von Augustinerbräu.

Das Bier startet malzig und leicht herb, wird aber immer süßer, bis es im Nachgeschmack fast schon unanganehm süß ist. Röstmalzige Aromen findet man höchstens im Nachgeschmack. Wässriges Durchschnittsdunkel ohne Profil. Test vom 11.2.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,7,8,7,13,8

Vom Fass at Augustinerkeller in München. Poured light brown in colour with tan head. Roasted malts, light chocolate notes. Flavour roasted malts and faint hints of hops. Well balanced.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2011 I liked this Dunkel Vom Fass, it is light, easy to drink, but with a decently robust flavor that is very satisfying.
