3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500ml Bottle: BBD Mar/14. Opened at the second ever Shrewsbury Bottle Share on 24th Feb 2014. Four of us partook in drinking this, an offering from my good self.
I’ve complained before about weak and watery Dunkel brews from Germany and beyond: no such worries with this lovely beer, it’s far from weak or watery in nature.
Good looking brew too: very dark amber leaning towards brown with a mini red hue, on top a full and lasting head.
Sweet malty molasses rule the nose and taste, something my sweet tooth tends to like. Nothing complicated or special about this, but it is one of the better Dunkel beers I’ve come across so far.
It’s not rich or creamy body wise but it carried the flavours nicely and is well worth trying if you get the chance.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: FEB 12, 2014 Dark amber colour a little bit cloudy. Beige head with average durability and regular bubbles. The foam bonds well on the glass. The melanoid factor dominates aroma and taste. Similar to the east european bread drink, called kvass. Dried plums. Leathery finish and a accurate carbonation. It’s a very good german dark lager, like this kind of beer should be.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Brownish head, disappearing, and a brown colour. Smell is sweet, bread, malty and some coffee.
Taste is like the smell, about the same notes, but enhanced. A good balance.
A very good Dunkel, and maybe the best product of Augustiner.
