0.5L at Munich cafe with pork and dumplings for dinner. Perfect accompaniment to a fabulous German dinner with my dad. Strong malty sweetness and a beautiful banana/clove aroma. Augustiner - please come to America!!!

Bottle. Excellent head, beautiful dark brown colour, smooth, caramel and malty. It has a light mouthfeel to it and is extremely drinkable. I love it.

I enjoyed this with dinner at the Augustiner-Keller and Augustiner Großgaststätten in Munich. Great on tap, never had it in the bottle. Really wish they sold this in the US. Malty with light hops, light fruit undertones mildly sweet.

Caramel brown body with a light beige head that is short lived. Aroma is spicy, malted with a subtle roasted smell, reminds of the crust of a well baked bread. Sweet, caramel like, taste with a light hint of hops that leaves a nice aftertaste. Impressively complex when travelling inside the mouth, hits most of the right keys. Well balanced, the low carbonation leaves all the pleasureable taste on the tongue without fizzling it away. But at the same time, it is extremely light-hearted and easy to drink. Consistent level for several samplings. It goes right to the top of the dunkels.

Bottle. NIce chocolate malt aroma. Medium brown color - clear with small head. A very complex flavor for a dunkel - smoky and creamy chocoloate malt flavor. Nice body. A very nice dunkel.

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2014 Dark amber colour a little bit cloudy. Beige head with average durability and regular bubbles. The foam bonds well on the glass. The melanoid factor dominates aroma and taste. Similar to the east european bread drink, called kvass. Dried plums. Leathery finish and a accurate carbonation. It’s a very good german dark lager, like this kind of beer should be.

Bottle (500ml) in Munich - An aroma consisting of roasted malts mainly with toffee and some general sweetness making for a nice smelling dunkel. There is also hints of chocolate making this a strong smelling beer that is very pleasant. A dark mahogany brown colour with hints of a dark amber throughout. The beer is clear and forms a large, off-white slightly brownish head that settles & slowly forms a thick lacing of a head. An excellent tasting roasted malt & nutty chocolate flavour and mild aftertaste that is almost bitter free. Hints of toffee throughout make for a well balanced beer. This smooth dunkel is medium bodied & very well balanced making it very easy to drink and quite crisp for a dark beer with no hint of dryness in the finish. A really nice dunkel & a welcome change from my usually preference of lighter beers. This one was easy to drink & would make a great tasting session beer. - - -
