Sledge Jr (2716), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Sep 27, 2004 On tap at the Haus. Mighty good. Too good for an American at Die Wiesen. Dark golden in color. Sweet and tart upon first taste. Blends into a balanced hoppiness that says "drink vats of me!" MoritzF (3883), Ruhrpott, Germany Aug 4, 2006 (bottle, with many thanks to pivnizub !) Clear golden, effervescent hue with a nice and slowly lacing foamy white head. Elegant and soft sweet malty aroma with delicate fruity notes of pear and apricot, also shy but present hoppy tones. Soft sweet flavour, Pilsener-malty, taste, light fruity notes, medium body, smooth carbonation; well-bound hoppy notes, drying out the whole a bit towards the end with a warming but not too present alcohol. Not only quaffable but very fine Bock. Brodie (540), Blowing Rock, North Carolina, USA Jun 8, 2006 On draft at the Alstadt beer hall. Big malty aroma, a little alcohol, light fruitiness. Golden color, big white head. Rich maltiness, on the sweet side, just enough hop bitterness to balance, some complexity from alcohol. Medium-full body, moderate carbonation, no alcohol burn whatsoever. Nice maibock, nothing fancy, just a big, clean, malty beer. Quack-Duck (1756), Bodensee, Germany May 17, 2008 bottle. Clear strawy yellow, large head. Hoppy nose. Full-bodied, bitter-sweet with hints of herbs. Very malty with herbal and grassy hoppy accents that lead to a dry finish. Very good. larsga (2149), Oslo, Norway May 27, 2008 Enormous (4 times size of body) fine-laced offwhite head ends in a coarse froth on top. Shrinks slowly. Yellow body with very slow carbonation. Head leaves fine lacing on glass. Deep malty grassy peppery aroma, harmonic and clean, with floral fruity notes. Sweet (and dryish) dense clean apple and malts taste with grass and toffee notes. Full-bodied, almost oily, yet clean and refreshing. Dry peppery, spicy, grassy aftertaste with malt notes. An excellent beer. (0.2l draft at Augustiner Großgaststätte, München.)
