Quack-Duck (1609), Bodensee, Germany May 17, 2008 bottle. Clear strawy yellow, large head. Hoppy nose. Full-bodied, bitter-sweet with hints of herbs. Very malty with herbal and grassy hoppy accents that lead to a dry finish. Very good.
MIBRomeo (1845), Wisconsin, USA Jul 14, 2008 had at augustiner in munich. Great appearance again pale w/ lots of viz carb w/ a full white head. Lightly hopped aroma some odd spice and a bit of cardboard. Avg pal, dull flavor, not that great. DruncanVeasey (1533), Burbage, Germany Jun 7, 2008 Augustiner Großgaststatte, Munich. Pale, fizzy and heaped with froth and lace. Grassy hop aroma with added almond and marzipan in the mouth. Smooth, highly carbonated, a bit dull. Just a sweet, negligibly hopped, turbo-charged lager, really. Clean, smooth and evil. larsga (2098), Oslo, Norway May 27, 2008 Enormous (4 times size of body) fine-laced offwhite head ends in a coarse froth on top. Shrinks slowly. Yellow body with very slow carbonation. Head leaves fine lacing on glass. Deep malty grassy peppery aroma, harmonic and clean, with floral fruity notes. Sweet (and dryish) dense clean apple and malts taste with grass and toffee notes. Full-bodied, almost oily, yet clean and refreshing. Dry peppery, spicy, grassy aftertaste with malt notes. An excellent beer. (0.2l draft at Augustiner Großgaststätte, München.) Doppelganger (1080), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Dec 16, 2007 Bottle, Dodgy Deli, on Cowley Road, Oxford. Shiny gold, soapy white head that settles fairly quickly. Honey aroma, marmalade, a bit of earthy hops. The bile/farm smell that seems peculiar to certain lagers. Honey-sweet flavor, herbal hops for texture, orderly fairly dry finish. Very delicate palate, esp for strength. Would be more refreshing with a little more generous hopping or a little further attenuation, but not bad.
