JFURYCAT (711), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 28, 2007 It has a nice sticky malty overtone with a fuzzy head, sugary aroma and somewhat creamy but light mouthfeel. Its a pleasure to drink this if you like doppelbocks. I’m okay with them. I think this one is a bit too sticky for me and a bit too sweet.
kmweaver (2015), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Sep 3, 2008 12oz bottle, courtesy of my brother. Thanks, Phil! Pours a slightly murky, oily amber-brown color; off-white head that readily fades. Solid amounts of dried dark fruits, caramel, and some citrus acidity in the aroma; solid, generous, dense maltiness. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: good amounts of oiliness, nougat, dried dark fruits, and caramel; very nice texture and maltiness; excellent, perfectly balanced, and very drinkable example of the style. Lengthy finish: toasty malts, caramel, and dried fruits; balanced ending. NJBeerman013 (586), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Sep 1, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep dark ruby brown in color, with a very small, beighe head. The head quickly fades to a sticky thin lace. The aroma is very sweet, molasses, candy sugar, a little spice - cinnamon, and dried fruit. The flavor notes are all sweet and alcohol. It has a full body and well rounded mouthfeel. It has a bit of a cloying sweetness to the finish. Excellent. darn1207 (258), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 23, 2008 12oz bottle. dark ruby color with medium off-white head. roasted dark fruits, bread and molasses in the aroma. syrupy texture. sweet taste throughout. little bit of warmth. K-7 GMUcrew7 (183), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Aug 22, 2008 Pours nice dark brown with and amber hue and a light beige head that dissipates very quickly. Wonderful sweet caramel malt and dark fruit (prunes) aroma. Flavor is similar, sweet toasted malts, with toffee, caramel and dark fruits. The body is a little lighter than I expected, but still an above average beer. BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA Aug 10, 2008 Decent textbook take on the style that is nice, but not overly complex or exciting. Dark fruits and sweet sugary maltiness, balanced out by some roasted caramel, and some warming alcohol sensations in the finish. A little sweeter than I like the whole way through.
