Nightfall (1306) - Hamburg, GERMANY - JUN 9, 2009
0,5lt Bottle from Beer Factory Athens. Cloudy golden-orange color with a quickly collapsing white head. I had better expectations for this but it is just an average weisse with typical yeasty and banana aromas and taste.

500 mL bottle from Beers of Europe. Medium opacity yellow/orange wheat beer. The aroma is nice and appetising. For a wheat beer this is remarkably smooth. Its pleasant and easy to drink, recommended.

Bottle hauled back from Berlin. Pours a bright orange color with a fleeting off-white head. Smells and tastes of rubber bands, yeast, toast, and a nice helping of malt. Toerable.

(bottle from Sparky, thanks Eric!) Pours a hazy light gold color with a medium sized white head that sticks around. Aroma is quite nice, with some honey-nut cheerios, vanilla, dried banana chips, and an ample amount of must that does intrude on the rest of the scents. There’s a bit of spice, but it’s subdued in comparison to most American hefes. Taste is pretty good, albeit light, with dried banana chips, faint vanilla right before the finish, bread dough, and a crisp minerally and grainy finish. Mouthfeel is light, slightly creamy, and the carbonation is lively. Overall this isn’t a beer that hits you over the head with taste, but I really enjoyed the subtle flavors since every component I would expect in a hefe was present. I wish this were available in the States, as I would drink a lot of this in the summer. Thanks again Eric!

50cl. Bottle. Poors cloudy orange with white head. Aroma banana, yeast, malts. Taste weak, little sweat, little bitter. Mouth-feel thin, bit creamy. Weak weissbeer, it’s ok but taste is little to weak.

500ml Bottle from Augustiner am Gendarenmarkt, Berlin (€3.90):
Strong wheat aroma, some spice & cloves as well. Fresh notes with some bubblegum followed by citrus. Fairly strong on the nose & lively too.
Cloudy amber with golden tinges & 3cm fluffy head that holds well.
A good combination of wheat & cloves followed by citrus & some bubblegum. An odd touch of spice but the beer seems fresh with some orange & banana flavours here too.
Very smooth with a lively body & strong carbonation. Some sweetness dotted about the place, mainly from the banana in the taste & no bitterness.

Very enjoyable & remarkably easy to drink, refreshing too. Another excellent beer from Augustiner & one that I’d likely pick up again although only Edelstoff & their Lagerbier Hell are easily available in the UK it seems.
