4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
In short: A splendid rich and fruity dark beer.
How: Cask at Gyvo Alaus Krautuvelé, Panevėys, Lithuania.
The look: Clear burgundy body topped by a medium beige head with good retention
In long: Nose is medium toasted and with raisins and dark fruits jumping out of the glass. This beer smells of freshness. Taste is juicy raisins, luscious caramel, tree branches, toastiness, date squares, fresh homemade fruit jam. Very rich but somehow doesnt feel heavy or sweet, surprisingly easy to drink despite its corpulent body. This beer really stood out in the Lithuanian beer scenery, and if anything was one of the least original creation I had over there, it flavor profile was somewhat reminiscent of an Abt-Light, and a very good one at that. I tried ordering the beer by its name and the barman gave me the content of the cash register and laid down face down on the floor.

Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement crémeuse. Faible effervescence en bouche. Légère présence de caramel en arrière goût. (Rating #4241)

Tap (Krautuvelé, Panevezys)
Huge creamy head, takes a while to settle. Lovely spicy aroma, a touch of clove, bt nicely mellow, and nothing in your face. Full smooth palate, perhaps a little young. Gentle roast, nice! Slightly milky grains. Orange peel spiciness, but again quite mellow. Oddly, has a belgian feel to it - pure quality. World class beer.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
My Bottom Line:
Caramelized raisins and strawberry jam are spread onto toasted bread in this most luxurious Tamsus.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A thick, creamy head of foam decorates the dark red haze, lacing beautifully.
-A touch of wood comes from the finishing hoppiness.
-This is as compelling as Davras Varniuku in the Tamsus category, yet the few pints I had in Panevezys were even better tendered. I have no idea how it fares in a regular tap setting, but this hand-pulled, naturally carbonated version was heavenly.
-The mouthfeel is lusciously creamy yet easy to drink, like the best Dunkler Bocks out there.
-The malt flavors, again, are distinctive to Lithuania. Such deep raisin-y and date-like notes are never as expressive elsewhere.
Hand-pulled at Gyvo Alaus Krautuvelé, in Panevezys.
