Can at BTBF. Pours with a slightly hazy near black hued body with a tan head that lasts. Aromas are roasty, mildly citrusy, spicy, grainy, hop resin, roast and chocolate. Flavors show spicy and floral hops with a mild citrus character. Baked bread, low roast. Very very fresh hop profile. Lively carbonation, medium dry with a long roasty, coffee like finish.

UPDATED: APR 28, 2013 Draft poured. Dark almost black with practically no head. Hard to tell the aroma in this glass. Flavors are light roast, chocolate, malt, easy hops on the finish. Goes down smooth and tasty but not remarkable

draft. light chalkiness in the nose along with the obligatory black patent char with lighter milk chocolate notes. medium body, lightly pasty, creamy carbonation and creamy body suggesting oats (which I see now is chocolate wheat, ok). pleasant soft minerallic yeast character.

What I can see through the mouth of the can is a dark-brown color. The aroma is of delicious, roasted malts, dark caramel malts, and what you normally get in the nose from well-made lagers. In the mouth, it’s almost English in style, dominated by roasted, toasted malts that impart a slight woody, chocolate flavor that manages to steer the beer away from applying its inner lager to the palate. It finishes relatively clean with hints of roast, and a cold, tongue-puckeringly condensed, slightly oily bitterness in a manner that reminds me of wood stain. Not bad... and a great Schwartzbier.
