COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
If a stout and a pilsner had a lovechild, it would be Black Thunder. It would also be a miracle, because beer can’t “get it on.” This miniature powder keg starts with a roasted, bread-like complexity but finishes dry and clean like a pilsner. It’s dark, distinctive, and dry.
Hops: German Magnum, Tettnanger, Saaz, Hallertau
Malts: Pils, C-60, Chocolate Wheat, Debittered Black
Yeast: Urquell Lager

chocolate, coffee, roasty, almost black, nice head, lightly bitter, light body, moderately thin feel, average carbonation, clean finish. This beer is a beautiful marriage between a crisp lager and a malty, roasty porter. Love it!

On tap at the Draught House. The beer pours a dark brown to black color with an off-white head. The aroma is very nice. I get a lot of chocolate and roasted malt notes, with a little bit of dark fruit. It smells quite a bit like a nice, roasted porter. The flavor is more of the same. I get a lot of dark roasted malt with some bitterness from the malt and chocolate notes. There is also a little bit of nuttyness in the flavor. There is a ton of flavor packed into this lower alcohol beer. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Hopefully this beer is canned because I could drink this all day long.

Smell is light coffee and roast malt. Taste is cold coffee like. Thin to medium body with crisp carbonation and nice coffee flavor. Great for a lighter easy to drink roasty beer.

Very nice beer pours with Lacey head and aroma of chocolate and licorice. Taste is silky smooth with roasty notes of chocolate and some smoke. Well done

FROM NOTES: November 27, ’13. Poured from a can into a snifter. A: A very light aroma of dark roasted caramel, coffee like malts and a touch of earthy hop aroma. A: Pours a deep brown with a finger of tan head that dissipates slowly. T: Follows the nose, albeit a more simple taste than the noses suggest with roasted malt dominating (though not being over the top) and some chocolate in the background. P: A medium body that is very crisp, clean, and dry. Easy to drink. O: Perhaps the best schwarzbier brewed outside of Germany that I have ever had. WELL DONE.
