COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
If a stout and a pilsner had a lovechild, it would be Black Thunder. It would also be a miracle, because beer can’t “get it on.” This miniature powder keg starts with a roasted, bread-like complexity but finishes dry and clean like a pilsner. It’s dark, distinctive, and dry.
Hops: German Magnum, Tettnanger, Saaz, Hallertau
Malts: Pils, C-60, Chocolate Wheat, Debittered Black
Yeast: Urquell Lager

not so sure about thunderous, but I do applaud this new brewery. This and two other solid efforts right out the gate - not too shabby. Not the biggest schwarzbier fan, but hey, this tasted good even AFTER the IPA, so good marks. No off flavors, nice and roasty and good body. What more can I say? Even though I probably won’t often gravitate to this one, it’s good and think it has some fans to be found out there.

Thanks to wagenvolks for sending this can my way. Served in a SAVOR wine glass. Pours a very dark brown with a single-finger tan head that goes away fairly quickly without leaving much of any lacing behind. The nose has faint roasted malt with a touch of chocolate and coffee. Flavor is quite similar, with roasted malt dominating (though not being over the top), with some chocolate in the background. Light-medium body with slight chewiness and a semi-dry finish. A pretty decent example of the style, though I could use a bit more depth.

Dark pour, not quite black but close. Head tan with decent retention...if helped. Roasted coffee with a hint of cocco, slight resin hops lingering. medium to heavy in both bitterness and sweetness. Thick and sticky on the tongue with a balanced but bitter finish. Not as subtle as its German inspiration, but a delicious dark beer.
