3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft pour at Whip In. Black color with a thin white head that lingers. Sparse white lacing clings to the glass. Poured too cold to get a proper tasting, particularly on smell. Tastes of malts, a light roastiness and faint hops. Highly drinkable beer. I like it better than their Black Thunder.

Tap at Via 313. Pours dark brown, then white head. Aroma is piney hops, faintly fruity, cocoa and toasted Malta. Taste is piney, cocoa, nicely hoppy with great bitterness. Cocoa and toasted malts come in after the bitterness fades. Great black IPA. Medium body and carbonation. Fantastic beer.

Thanks to Ken for sharing. Pours only black with a thin non-lasting tan head. Aroma of malt and tropical fruit. The taste is malty with hints of hop driven tropical fruit. Medium body and medium carbonation. Not as bitter as Sprecher's Black IPA. Overall, very drinkable and mellow.

Can shared in NYC - cheers to Dr. Sandman. Pours deep brown with a creamy, tan head. The nose has roasted pine, bread, rindy grapefruit. Medium sweet flavor with burnt toast, lots of juicy citrus fruits, lingering grapefruit, earth. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with more toasted bread, faint cocoa, ripe citrus, some bitter toasted grass and orange rind. Very good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark brown appearance, nearing black. Beige head, nearly an inch in height. Pine and roast in the aroma. mild chocolate character. A well balanced version of a black IPA. Definitely a nice hop presence, but not too assertive. A touch of bitterness in the back. Pretty easy drinking. Solid.

Can thanks to Will. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is pine, herbs, and roast. Medium mouthfeel with light bitter hop, sweet roast and light dryness. Very good.

Nice beer, and even though it was my least favorite of the ones I tried, I still liked it quite a bit. Roasty and hoppy. Thinnish body and easy drinking. I drank it while on the brewery tour.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours coffee black. Opaque. The head is tan and foamy, medium to medium-small in size. Bubbles stick around for some time. Maybe, it’s just selection bias, but I get the sense that cans do good things for a beer’s head. The aroma is fresh and bright with hops. It’s a pleasant mix of floral, spice and grass hoppiness. Sweet caramel malt in the background. Little to no aroma of darker grains. The beer has a very pleasant mix of caramel sweetness and that same bright hoppiness. There’s a little more grapefruit rind to the hop character in the taste, but there’s still plenty of grass and pepper. Again, little to no roasted malt presence - perhaps, just a touch in the finish. I would guess that Sinamar or a similar product was used in this beer, and I highly approve of that for this style (of course, I’m not a big ABA/BIPA/CDA fan). Mouthfeel is smooth with some light hop oiliness. Tasty beer. It’s not exactly blowing me away, but it’s pleasant and appealing and has little roast flavor.

Very dark amber (some light does show through), toffee colored head. Pine in the nose. Bitter. Middle is solid toasted malt, mixed with a variety of hop body. Finish is resin and pines again.
