Hereís a secret: This is really an American Pale Ale. But we call it Half IPA because we do what we want. Light hop additions during the boil and tons of dry hopping with Centennial and Citra mean the bitterness is low, but the hop flavor and aroma are high. Made specifically for summertime in Austin, itís great for sitting poolside or dockside.

Can: † Vibrant straw, translucent, light carbonation, small to moderate sudsy white head, little lacing. † Light earth and citrusy hop aroma. † Very pale/soft citrusy hop notes, as well as earthy malt notes on the tongue. † Clean, but really light. † Nice hoppity flavor profile, better than the nose suggested. † Body and mouthfeel are moderate. † Simple Pale Ale, but clean. † Wished it had a bit more umph in the aroma department, and on the finish. † Clean, but light compared to one of my favorites, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

What a brilliant idea. Much enjoyed despite my general love of being smashed in the sensors with hops. Tasty + tasty with additional fun and chuckles. No need to fly flags at half mast.

We covered the Half IPA on episode 5 of Locapour: http://locapour.tv/austin/austinbeerworkshalfipa is a fantastic beer. It lives up to the promise of being great for the summer. Itís got enough oomph to let you know you are drinking a great craft beer but itís light enough to be refreshing on a hot day. As I mentioned in the intro for the episode I find the beer to be very manly because thereís a musky finish that makes me think of things like working on cars or the motorcycle.

Can thanks to thickfreakness. Crisp gold pour with a white head. Nose is bright citrus grapefruit, clean, light bitterness, and faintly bitter. Great palate, fresh hops, bright citrus, fruits and a clean finish.

Can. Clear golden pour with small, white, quickly receding white head. Nose is orange, melon, pine, resin, floral. Flavor is floral, orange, pine, incredibly well balanced. Semi dry finish, low bitterness and medium effervescence. Excellent summer beer!

On tap. I agree with the description of this beer for the most part. Itís a strong gold color, with a bubbly collar and OK lacing. The aroma is light & mild. The taste is pretty god, they do a nice enough job of leaving the flavor of hops but taking out the bitterness, but it lacks real aftertaste and "bite". Iíve had pale ales that kick harder that this, which isnít a bad thing- - this might just be your cup of tea!

Hazy golden color pouring with a big, white head. Quite strong, danky aroma but the flavor is all pine and citrus. It may be half as strong as the original but it has all the taste. This is the most flavorful lowest alcohol IPA I think Iíve had.

Poured from a tall boy can into a glass mug. Pours a very clear golden color with a thick white head that fades. Hoppy aroma that contains hints of pine, pineapple, and citrus. Hoppy bite upfront with pine notes and fades to the more pineapple-y notes. Hops are not overpowering (hence the Half IPA) and leaves the palate cleanly with average carbonation. Writing on the can is quite clever. Good beer if you like some bite but donít want the whole punch in the face.

clear gold, moderate sized white head. floral, citrus, cereal, a bit peppery. medium bitter, light sweet. light body, slick feel. nice enough, but i think the double IPA in this series was loads better.
