Slight aroma of malts, caramel, bread and roasted malts.

Turbid/opaque ruby/dark brown beer with medium yeast and with a large beige/brown head.

Starts slightly/medium sweet with malts and caramel; ends slightly dry with bread and roasted malts.

This beer is rather complex and balanced, but lacks intensity. The aroma is lacking so much, it is unreal. Even the taste is almost not there at all. Very dry and earthy overall, but the sweet start lacks enough to weigh the beer down.

I had the beer at the Kaapse Brouwers 2nd anniversary. The beer looks nice. The color of the beer is ruby red with a brown touch. The beer pours a nice almond brown foam. The beer is quite clear. The smell is quite simple. It’s a little watery. There are some touches of hops in the smell. There is a little bread like malty sweetness. The taste is better. It has a nice hoppy fresh sweetness and again a breadlike touch. Its again a bit mild and shallow. The palate is simple to. The texture is a bit watery. I expected a bit more.

Dark brown colour, bordering on black with a red hue. Aroma is sweet roasted malts and hints of coffee. Notes of dark caramel. Hints of ash. Flavour is mostly sweet with some bitter afternotes. Sweet. Roasted malts. Toffee. Some smoke and ash. Lingering aftertaste. Based on the homebrew recipe from one the brewers grandmother. Cheers to you Grandma Cooper.
