The king of beers. Pale and bright but don’t let this wolf in sheep’s clothing fool you, there’s lots of spicy fresh hop aromas and a fair hit of bitterness making this a beer to be reckoned with.

Tap at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear straw colour with lots of bubbles and a frothy white head. The aroma is light malt, yeast. The flavour is moderate bitter with a yeast, hop bitter, light zesty citrus palate and a somewhat unpleasant yeasty aftertaste. Light bodied with lively carbonation.

UPDATED: JUN 26, 2014 BB 12/14. Poured a pale straw colour with a few millimetres for a head which retained as a collar. Laced OK. Carbonation moderate with medium sized bubbles. Aroma of citrus and spices/pepper. Taste of citrus and spice/?pepper but it lost its character as it warmed. Light body. Soft with a peppery finish - distinctly different from the one previously sampled. BB 24.07.14. Upon pouring, the white foam filled the 20cm tall glass to the rim and then diminished slowly. It produced a pale straw coloured liquid. Lacing all over side of glass, as expected. Low carbonation (just about flat – put all of the carbonation into making a big fluffy head). Visually unappealing. Aroma of slight malt, maybe a hint of citrus, no hops evident. Taste a bit grainy with faint lemon and a trace metallic. Light body. Finishes tangy. Not a good example of a pilsner (16 June 2014 Rated = 2.1)

Poured pale amber with big white head that turned ugly and chunky quickly. Aroma grass and sickly sweet and sour citrus. Flavours of grains followed by bitterness of hops layered over following sweetness. Lively palate perhaps over gassed that helped bolster body to medium. Moderately long finish a touch metallic. Pretty good for $1.

Another well-made bottom-fermented beer from these guys. A decent summery pils with enough hop character to set it above the average big-bottlo fridge junk. Straw-coloured with a shallow pall of suds. Nice, zesty aroma, not a million miles away from the Steam Ale. Lemon peel, Saaz (?), faint ginger. Bright, spritzy palate. Light and fruity up-front before a tasty bitterness. Sauvin hops from NZ? Faintly metallic, with a dry, herbal finish. Worth a repeat visit. (355ml can from D’Vine Cellars, Wenty Falls)

Pours gold with a fading head. Nose shows spicy, earthy and herbal hops along with some lemony notes. Pretty similar flavours, but hoppier. More herbal notes and light malt with a grainy hint. Could use a bit more carbonation. Pretty decent attempt at a bohemian pilsner!
