The amber in this series, with a yellowish white, mousse-like head and a kind of dirty, brownish amber colour, due to the yeast divided over the beer even after careful pouring - usually a bad omen in any type of bottle-conditioned ale that is not deliberately trying to be cloudy (like a Weizen). The nose gets caramel malt, walnut, apple, rhubarb, melon but also two chemicals that testify brewing faults, namely DMS (red cabbage) and H2S (rotten egg) - not very inviting, to say the least, and probably related to the brownish hue hanging over the beer. Taste a bready malty, yeasty and fruity, but also cardboard and quickly becoming sourish, as was to be expected - the beer is clearly infected. Ends in a kind of citric acidity with little hops. A beer teaming with brewing errors and in that sense a complete failure.

Oranje goudkleur, amper schuim. Aroma van sinaasappel en mout. Drinkt niet prettig door het koolzuurgas. Smaak is zuur op een onaangename manier.

Glass from a bottle at the 2014 Brugge Beer Festival, sampled along side it’s Blonde brother (which I prefered to be honest).
Pours a pleasing amber (who would have thought it would be amber?) colour with a thin white head.
Nose is caramel sweet with a mixed fruit bowl and yeastiness.
The taste again malty sweet with a fruit feel, some light spice notes: didn’t float my boat really. medium bodied and OK overall, it just lacked an alcohol kick compared to it’s Blonde stable mate.
Decent enough but it did not stand out like so many others I had before and after it on the day.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2014 *Bottle bought @ BAB Beerfestival, Bruges. Slighty cloudy golden-orange colour with a big creamy head. Quite hoppy aroma and taste with citrus fruits and a pleasant bitterness, some malts and caramel but no big flavours to be noticed. Relatively high carbonation, thin body that grows a bit more firm as the beer warms. Pretty decent.

If it’s an amber then it’s a very pale one. Aroma and flavour have pleasant caramel sweetness. It’s also quite yeasty. Carbonation is intense. Finish is quite watery.
