3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 JorisPPattyn (7306) - Antwerpen, - OCT 7, 2012Huge brown-tan head, slowly receding over brown-black beer. Volatile, but remarkable fruity-light sweetish aroma as from billberries. After that, rather sweet-roasted flavour, as dark soft candi sugar, molasses, (scorched) syrup. Roasted peanuts. More classical flavours in the taste: roasted/burnt grains and malts, restricted amount of restsugars; roasted nuts. Overall rather sweet, little bitterness. Bit ashes retronasal, warming up, coffee. Feels probably better bodied than it really is; grist-like slickness. Sweeti-ish stout, decent.

330ml bottle (HBF2013, Friday)
Rich roasty coffee aroma. Sweetish, but so burnt. Smooth in palate, nice carbonation. Full in the mouth. Roasty, a little dry but no astringency. Covers 7% well - almost watery. Tons of red berries in the retronasals. Lovely roast finish. Good one. Did get some soy later, but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment at all.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Abio (1334) - Waasland, BELGIUM - NOV 4, 2012
Black in the glass, the head is just a smal light brown lace when you wait like a minute. The smell is decent. Good roasted malts, chocolate and coffee, mocca and some vanilla. At the taste the roastiness is in front and get followed by a good holding chocolate aftertaste, with the vanilla followin right after to combine decent. Not totally outbalanced and needs a small boost for me, but the aftertaste makes this one better. The bittersweetness (most sweet) at the taste is good. Better then expected.
