   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 12/20
Alengrin (160) - BELGIUM - JUL 25, 2014
The triple in this series has a rather thin but stable, cream white, sticky head and peach blonde colour, lightly cloudy with equally divided, tiny yeast particles; nose gets orange peel, pineapple, caramel malts, apple, lemon zest, grassy hops, white pepper and cardboard. Taste kicks off softly fruity and sweetish with quite mild saturation (at least in comparison with its light blonde counterpart), sourish citrus, mildy malty in the middle and finishing off aromatically and gently hoppy without really becoming bitter. One of those many forgettable, thirteen-to-the-dozen tripels.

   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 5/10   PALATE 2/5   OVERALL 9/20
Benzai (7302) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - JUL 9, 2014
Bottle @ home shared with Dutchdrebus and Ansjelaah. Slightly unclear orange color, average sized off-white head that diminishes quite quickly. Smell and taste malts, pretty sweet, lightly herbs or spices and slightly alcohol. Average to medium body, a bit fizzy carbonation. No, don’t like it, way too sweet and annoying carbonation.

fkoolen (239) - Maastricht, NETHERLANDS - FEB 21, 2014
Hazy golden-orange, slim white head. Aroma is thin, but sweet. As is the taste: way too sweet, therefore no specific notes too be distinguished. Candy. Oily mouthfeel, thick body, medium-low carbonation. Overall: terrible.

Swaroga (1269) - Brussels, BELGIUM - NOV 3, 2013
33cl bottle. Completely hazy with bits in it. Orange color with small to medium head. NOSE : dough, yeast, orange, apricot, pear, lactic notes. SIP : medium body with lively carbonation. Smooth and oily. Sweet dough with strong yeast background. Fruity aromas along the way mixing with booze. For 9,5% it is well hidden. Still it warms after couple of sips. Aftertaste is sour and delicately bitter. It is still cloying sweet till the end. OVERALL : the beer seams out of balance. Cloying sweet and yeasty. Not my kind of beer.

Deep amber coloured body with a brown tint and almost no head at all - this is NOT what a trip should look like. Aroma of yeast, malt, wheat, alcohol, raisins and other pit fruits with a bit of cardboard and earthy nuts. Medium-bodied; Strong alcohol flavour at first with malt, pit fruits, apples, pears and a bit of caramel nuttiness. Aftertaste shows some yeast with a good fruity character and a definite alcohol flavour at the end. Overall, an interesting, but unfortunately not good beer that doesn’t remind me of any tripel that i’ve ever had - but who’s to say I can judge, since I’m not Belgian! I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Beer Mania in Bruxelles, Belgium on 30-June-2012 for €2,50 sampled at home on the other side of the Ocean in Washington on 14-December-2012.
