On tap at Aux fous brassant summer 2012. The color is a clear amber with a thin beige head. The aroma or lack of it is of roasted malt. The taste is of malt, cereal some hops for that bitterness in the taste not much more.I hope in time it will get better.

(Rating #4531)

In short: A light bronze ale with many many problems. Amateurish
How: Tap at brewpub, from the very first batch, consumed on the very first day Fous Brassant started serving their own beers
The look: Partly cloudy light bronze body topped by a persistent small beige head
In long: Nose is forest floor, some dyacetyl, some DMS, some toasted fruits. Something’s wrong here. Taste is grainy cereals, buttery overcooked caramel, boiled vegetables forest floor, then concludes in a weird astringent finish. Totally off and very amateurish. Fortunately not very flavorful so it was almost drinkable. This beer should not have been served and I’m hoping there was something wrong with the line/keg/whatever because if this was the intended result… ouch. I’ll probably re-rate because this pub is on my way to my parent’s place, it can only get better I guess… Apparently to make good beer this new brewpub go above and beyond… and under, and backward, and forward, and below.. basically they have no idea what they’re doing.

on tap at brewpub. clear light brown-reddish with a decent off-white head, some retention and lacing. lightly toasted and roasted malts, fruitiness, very light acidity, some nuts, light herbal-citrusy hops. average carbonation, light body, relatively short grassy-citrusy finish. not so bland.

Drank on tap (12 oz) at the brewpub on July 8, 2012. Coppery reddish, small head. Sweet fruity aroma of barley, well malt. Taste of raw pale and hazelnut malt, some nuts, quite bitter. Simple, good for the uninitiated!

My Bottom Line :
Frontenac malt greenness is met by caramel sweetness and light fruitiness before grainy astringency is felt in lieu of hop bitterness.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A ring of foam surrounds the cloudy dark red.
-Carbonation is quite prickly.
-Hops are shy throughout. This brew delivers what a neophyte asking a ’Rousse’ wants: soft caramel malt flavors and not much else. Frontenac malt character might turn some off though...
-This remained refreshing on a hot day, but the Frontenac malt character for me is just too dominant and brash for what is meant to be a soft and smooth brew.

On tap at the brewpub.
