Ein leckeres Schwarzbier, dass nicht so malzig süß daherkommt, sondern erfrischend röstmalzig herb ist. Eine Bereicherung der Schwarzbier-Szene!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Gurthnar (605) - Bratislava, SLOVAK REPUBLIC - MAY 28, 2012
On tap at Hostinec Richtár Jakub. Big beige head, quickly disappearing. Dark ruby colour. Aroma strong caramel, roasted malt, light coffee, light raisins. Taste medium to heavy sweet, medium bitter. Mouthfeel a bit sticky. Finish light to medium sweet, light bitter. A bit too sweet for my liking, especially in the finish.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BlackHaddock (2350) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 4, 2012
International Green Week, Berlin 2012: our second day and we find ourselves in hall 17 where food and drink from Italy, Switzerland and The Czech Republic were on offer (as well as a few other countries) I notice a spare table and a couple of barstools, so plop the wife down and peruse the taps around me: I get the wife a Budweiser Budvar and myself this lovely looking ‘Schwarz aus Bohmen’ beer.
0.3 litres in a vase shaped, badged glass. A beige head sat on top of the ruby red body and all was well with the world. The smell was of dark fruits and malts; raisins, plums and dates being the fruits, caramel and toffee being the malt aromas.
The taste was very similar to the smells, but with some chocolate arriving mid-mouthful: might sound sweet but it wasn’t, smooth and almost creamy, but not overly sweet by any means.

Auch ich kam in den Genuss dieses Bieres auf einer Bierbörse. Ein wenig wässrig kommt es daher, im selben Moment auch malzig. Im Nachgeschmack kommt eine dezente süße hinzu.
Lässt sich gut trinken.

Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the “typical” Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings. -------- />
How: Tap at Pivovarsky Klub, Prague
The look: Dark ruby body with medium beige head
To me a typical Czech Tmavé (Czech Black Lager) is: Dark malts and barely any roastiness sensation. Some dark fruits flavours (raisins with a little figs, dates and prunes) wrapped in smooth dark caramel (borderline toffee) and a subtle chocolate note. A bit bready. Moderately sweet without much hops presence and only a mild bitterness (voluntary unbalanced it seems). Very smooth body, like a watery cream.
This one: As above, very typical.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 TaktikMTL (4789) - Montréal-Nord, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 27, 2008
(Rating #1519)
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 24, 2008
My Bottom Line:
Prunes and figs shower the caramel maltiness with their fruity sagacity, as chocolate roams on by adding complexity to this sweet Tmavé.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the brownish copper.
-The fruity sweetness in this may recall brown rum at times.
-The body is soft and well-rounded, the archetypal Tmavé build.
-That fruitiness (prune-driven) could get annoying to those who don’t like this kind of fruit.
On tap at Pivovarsky Klub.
