Not terrible, but there’s just something about this brew that I can’t quite put my finger on. It’s not my fave. Most have described it correctly. Hazy dark tea hues with a thin head, little lace. Aroma was weak and buttery. Hop abundant bitter in flavor, with a very light malt contrast. I think my issue might be the mouthfeel. It’s a bit thin for me. The hop front almost leans for a bit more substance in the mouth. This is my second try of this beer, hoping that it would have "felt" better than the first. Alas, I don’t know that I’ll be giving it the 3rd strike.

Smells a little like mild slag. Rather bitter initially, but not over the top. A little rubbery at times. Weirdly savory! Looks like darker ginger ale. Rubber palate carries over to the finish.

pour lite brown with a head that lasts a loooong time. quite impressive. its odd-ESBs ive had are either not bitter at all or quite better like an IPA. this probably falls more in the standard pale ale level of bitterness. its hoppy, has some grapefruit in there, finish is a little buttery. not bad, and probably would get a higher rating from someone who is more into the more hops side of things. thats not me though.

Hazy and golden, WAY too much carbonation, bottle exploded upon opening!
After cleaning up the mess, I returned to sniff the beer: smells like celery and melted hard candy. The SESSION description is apt. This beer is on par with Macro brews... I know Avery has so much to offer, but I’m not sure what went wrong here. Adam Avery must’ve been in Belgium when this was brewed.
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20 Admiral (524) - Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 22, 2003
Hazy reddish gold, enormous offwhite head that leaves a good amount of residue. Strong grapefruit aroma, hints of pine. Lots of hops, but not a variety that I recognise. Some sweetness from the malt, sort of diacetylish. There's something odd in the flavor I can't put my finger on, and it bugs me. In fact, the more I drink the more it tastes weird, and I'm going to knock my rating down a few points and pour it out.
