Commercial Description:
We the Brewers of Avery Brewing Company, in order to form a more perfect ale, require a new leadership that can liberate us from our quagmires in foreign lands; embrace environmentally sound energy alternatives to imported oil; heal our ailing health care system; free us from tyrannical debt and resurrect the collapsing dollar. We hereby pledge to provide him or her with an ample amount of our Presidential Pale Ale to support in the struggle for the aforementioned goals! Hail to the New Chief!

Not an "Imperial" pale ale, this is a democracy. It's Presidential! Take the all-American pale ale, a bipartisan blend of malt and hops, increase to both Avery Brewing standards, and then, of course, dry hop the result with that most quintessential of American hops, Cascades, and you get this... Ale to the Chief. A brew worthy of the Oval Office! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, hops and yeast.

Pours burnt orange amber with a 3 finger creamy beige head that has good retention. Aroma is of pine, citrus, caramel malt, a strange tartness and a heap of peppery spice. Flavor is lighter than expected. Pine hops, toast, a little caramel, a little grapefruit, lots of black pepper spiciness. The finish is pretty strage, good but strange. The pine and pepper spice linger on while a pineapple and bitter hop finish take over, pretty crisp for a big beer. Not bad, kind of what I would think an Imperial APA would be like.

This is a strange beer, but i thought it was great. Aroma is like a pale/ipa, citrus, fruity. It has alot of spiciness, pepper. Finish is hoppy, but there is alot of interesting malt too. It’s everything at once, kind of like Obama!

Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm. Clear amber, rocky head. Intense peachy perfumy nose. Sweet and full bodied with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Aggresively hopped, but with style and a rock solid body as back drop. The sweetness ends up a bit sticky and n combnation with the immense bitterness it borders to ink.

Bottle, poured an orange amber with an off white head. Aroma of chewy caramel, fresh citrus hops, with hints of pine and flowers. Malt was sweet and almost like bubblegum in terms of taste. Alot of pine and grapefruit in the finish. Perhaps a bit past its prime, but it still had many good qualities. Nice palate.

That we are in the midst of a hop crisis is now well understood. But our time of standing pat, of protecting one beer and putting off unpleasant decisions when faced with oxidation — that time has surely passed . Starting today, we must drink our cellared beer, dust off those spider webs from the bottle tops, and begin again the work of punishing our livers!

As everyone else - I saved this one for tonight. I’m drinking this as my first beer under the Obama administration, after witnessing his swearing in downtown in Washington earlier in the day. Slightly hazy deep rusty copper coloured body with orange highlights and a fast-dying nice sized tan head. Aroma of fresh cascade hops, a lot of caramel, some nuts and a decent amount of raisins. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong astringent flavour at first showing a lot of the hops. More flavours show the nice malt, toffee and a little dose of nuts. Aftertaste is quite bitter, but the hops end it nicely! Overall, a good beer - strong and assertive, but mellow on the edges. Hopefully these characteristics will mark the USA over the next four years. Good luck and best wishes for the 44th president of the United States. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia, poured into a glass that shows the president’s future aircraft - on the day the last presidential pilot retired, 20 January 2009.

Bottle: Soft copper color with a finger of creamy beige head. Aroma is rich with hops, mostly citrus and grapefruit scents. A light floral presence and some malty sweet. Hops are up front with a floral and citrus bitter into a sweeter, malty sensation. More fruity hops before lingering floral bitters in the tail. Nicely done.
