COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For this year’s celebratory brew, we decided to focus on the characteristics that certain yeasts bring to the party. Each of the five Belgian yeasts selected adds its own unique aspect to the flavor and aroma of this saison. The hefty addition of rye helps dry this beauty out and lends another spicy component to the flavor. And for added fun, we subtly dry-hopped it, too! Brewed with malted barley, imported malted rye, imported specialty malts, hops and a blend of five Belgian yeast strains.

Pours deep amber with a small off white head. First aroma smell is an offputting slightly skunky smell, but the spicy rye, alchohol, bread and hops overtake it. Taste is pepper and rye spice, with quite an alchohol bite and a touch of grass, lemon and citrus. The rye saves this otherwise complex mess of a beer. Hide the alchohol and get rid of the skunky smell and it would be awesome.

Backlog rating on 10-20-2012 at Fort Wayne RateBeer Gathering (Bottled in May 2011) The appearance is a small beige head, amber hazy body, floaties, and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is rye, hops and spicy. The flavor is rye, malt, citrus, spicy, and sweet. The mouthfeel is semi-lively and this beer is light-medium bodied. This is a tasty Saison and worth trying.

they’ve been solid, but this one is the best yet. very nice aroma of columbus hops and some barnyard and fruit. flavor similar. very nice though it doesn’t quite pop as much as the flavor. a little thick for a traditional saison but i didn’t mind it at all. strong in flavor, but no hint of the 8.2%. well done."

Nose is fruity with some yeastiness. Pours clear amber with half decent off-tan head. Roastiness with some sweetness and light bitterness. Some yeasty spiciness.

This had a caramel b0dy, slightly hazy, with a sh0rt-lived eggshell head and pr0duced sheets 0f lace. The ar0ma was fruity, light cherry scents, flr0al, and had a bit 0f funk. The taste added a light citrus bitterness. It finished dry with a m0derate zest bitterness. N0t c0mplex, but very nice.

P: Copper amber body with floating specks and timid bubbles. Head creates a offwhite layer of thin bubbles that settle to a silky film. S: Hefty dose of spice with rye bread, tannin, barley, oxidation has set in, very timid funky yeast that is more powdery than funky. Orange, lemon and tart pear sprinkled with crushed pepper corns. Clove, old leather, booze and faint banana arrive once warmed. Musty and earthy like crawling around in the attic. T/M: Orange oil, rose petals, soapy citrus, grapefruit, caramel malt, tons if rye, barley, cardamom, hibiscus leaves, jasmine, fruit wax and aggressive spices. Floral hops and bitter fruit round out the super dry and chaulky finish. Medium-full creamy body with spicy carbonation. Hop bitterness is unpleasant and distracts from the blend. O: So I have to say that I was excited for this beer. This didn’t age well at all. Stale spicy rye is the forefront on this beer. It really shows more like a rye IPA than a saison. Super aggressive flavor profile that is really rough and messy. Not a triumphant success of the style but still glad I was able to try this. If fresh this would have blown me away and would have done better in my eyes.

"Strong aroma has a fruity and yeasty overtone, rather like a good hefeweizen. It pours a clear, dark brownish amber with a typical pale golden-tan head. Malty flavor has firm fruity and hoppy notes, with just a little bitterness and a hint of caramel. Smooth, edgy texture has good body and leaves a woody, slightly sweet finish."

tap. amber with small head. interesting fruit flavor with some yeastiness. doesn’t seem like a traditional saison at all, but whatever this is, it’s pretty good.
