COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For this year’s celebratory brew, we decided to focus on the characteristics that certain yeasts bring to the party. Each of the five Belgian yeasts selected adds its own unique aspect to the flavor and aroma of this saison. The hefty addition of rye helps dry this beauty out and lends another spicy component to the flavor. And for added fun, we subtly dry-hopped it, too! Brewed with malted barley, imported malted rye, imported specialty malts, hops and a blend of five Belgian yeast strains.

22oz., bottled May 2011. Hugely spicy, citric, herbal aroma, earthy and rife with Belgian yeast esters and suggestions of dough, lemon citrus, pepper, faint caramel, slight funkiness and tropical fruit present in the background. Deep sunset orange-amber color, somewhat hazy, with a swirl of sediment and lasting, uneven, fine-bubbled head, very impressive lacing as well. Flavor profile is dry, lightly tart, spicy and fruity, and rather strong at that, with a prominent yeast character from start to finish, augmented by herbal, gently bitter hops and very light toasty caramel and grainy rye maltiness. Leaves sort of an "open spice cabinet" effect on the palate. Active, effervescent, dry, lightly tart mouthfeel, body is full. Quite a lot going on here, some of it good, for sure, but I think I likely would have appreciated 12oz. or less of this. It’s kind of palate fatiguing all by itself, in a way.

Murky looking saison. The rye gives it a nice spiciness but i just had this one and got no aroma of the dry hopping. Enjoyable saison funk to it, however it was rather difficult to finish the whole 10 oz pour at the porter. wish i tried this one when it was fresher. oh well not bad, not great though.

Murky brown with some gold around the edges, standard sized head. Smell like fresh baked bread. Flavor is a nice mix of rye and and a bit of funk, and a dry, hoppy finish. Very enjoyable.

Bottle: pours clear deep golden brown, fine tan ring. Nose is distinct, earth, guava, rye malt, Belgian yeast, brown sugar, oaky scotch. Once on the palate, medium sweetness, distinct yeast, spicy rye, coffee bean, green, grass hops. Nice balance and definitely would seek out again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Fire Works Pizza in Arlington, VA over the weekend. Served in a taster glass. Pours a reddish-copper color with a thin off-white head and a bit of lacing as it falls down the glass. The nose carries a good bit of rye along with some peppery spice. Faint fruit there as well. Flavor keeps up with the high pepper and spice combo, with a lot of rye zestiness in there. Body is a bit chewy and a bit too thick for my liking. Decent.

Orange with a thin tan head. Clean hoppy well balanced aroma matches the even flavors. Hits the saison style with an excellent dry hopping flavor and ara that mutes the sweetness ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tampa, Fl - Whole Foods - 22 oz bomber. Pours a slightly murky dark copper with a sticky off white head that leave a slight trace of lacing. Aroma is nice, but odd. Pick up some spicy notes, a hint of peppermint, a hint of pickle juice. Flavor is full bodied and hearty, and a bit odd. Some ripening vegetable notes, a touch of rye, a bit of canned fruit cocktail juice essence. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky. Odd, but enjoyable.

22oz bottle. Hazy amber pour with a ring of white head. Aromas of barnyard, spices, and floral hops. Taste is slightly funky with citrus, some funk, and a bitter aftertaste. Doesn’t taste as good as it smells.
