Poured a hazy medium to dark amber with a large tan head. Aromas of oranges, grapefruits, some flowers, grass and malts. Nice sweet and bitter balance. Easy to drink. Mmmm, very good.

Pours a nice rich copper color with a thick and well-lacing off-white head. Bold, sweet grapefruity aroma with a good hop presence. Nice sweet caramel candy maltiness in the body is well balanced with an assertive fresh piney hoppiness that imparts a load of grapefruit flavor to the beer. Finishes dry, crisp, refreshing and hides the alcohol very well. A quite enjoyable double IPA. Thanks TAR for picking this up for me!

2004 bottle thanks to lumpy. Obviously past its hop prime, but who makes a DIPA as an anniversary beer to age? Pours with a hazy orange body and a large head that fades and leaves good lace. Aroma is barley wine, malty, maple aroma, cardboard, fruits, dirt and no real hops. Similar malt profile to the Maharajah. Taste is sweet with cardboard, orange, caramel and light alcohol. Lively bubbles.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 3fourths (6385) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 14, 2004
Light orange and slightly murky. Huge white head. Soapy hop aroma, very sweet and sharp. Similar to the Hercules in just about every way... piney, grapefruit, citrus. Crisp and sweet, entirely too bitter with nothing there to balance... I understand that some brewers might think that this is the DIPA style, but think again... this is just another unorganized hop orgy.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20 Sammy (6113) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 6, 2005
Big hoppy beer, with great aroma and big head. Liked the color, the dark fruit, the yeast. I would have been happy with a bottle of this all night. Rounded edges with malt. I am a fan of this brewery.
Last call at Radekfest 05, thanks for bringing MDS.

Bomber from ratman197, thanks Don! Pours a cloudy sunset orange with a small to medium sized off-white frothy head, diminishes to a patchy, spotty and edgy film, spotty lacing. Aroma is oranges, pine and spruce hops, sugary malt (caramel, meal, cookie). Heavy pine burning alcohol and acidic hop flavor that fades somewhat, some sweet maltiness in the background, spicy hop and alcohol finish. Full bodied and fizzy, spicy palate.

#999!. Pours turbid coppery with a medium, creamy white head and great lacing. Aroma of malt, hops, fruit. Tastes malty, with big hops, fruitiness, florals, spice, and chardonnay. The palate is medium, somewhat firm and dense. The finish is extremely hoppy, with resin. Perhaps not quite as well balanced as some I2PAs I’ve had, and a tiny bit harsh at the finish.....but to a hophead like me, this is Nirvana. There aren’t many bottles of this left. I got the last one at State Line in Elkton, MD. If you like IPAs and I2PAs, it’s time to get a trade out for this one. An exceptional beer!! Avery has knocked my socks off again!

22oz: Amber to orange hue, mostly clear, gentle off-white 1cm foam. Surprisingly sweet orange and honey aroma. It feels very candyish up the nostrils, a grapefruit yeast candy is how I put it. On the palate, this is an hop salad, extremely grapefruity, not quite harsh, less than expected anyway, but still very bitter, aggressively dry, teeth attacking and with a poor toothpaste aftertaste. I feel like anything could add balance to this. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed how the body seems to evolve from rather watery at first into a creamier blend as it warms.

Pours a clear copper color with a small white head that really hangs in there. Has a big hoppy nose full of citrus and pine. Good thick resiny mouthfeel typical of a nice highly hoppped double IPA. Great citrusy hop flavor with a little pine, with a good malt backbone. If you cant stand the hops, stay out of the IPAs!
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Ughsmash (5819) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 18, 2005
Thanks to hopdog for this one!! Almost clear peach pour with a substantial dense & rocky beige head. Very nice intricate lacing. Hoppy aroma with grapefruit, lemon zest, pine needles, and sweet caramel malts. A tingly hoppy assault hits the tastebuds first. Flavor followed the aroma quite closely, with a little butterscotch toward the back of the mouth. Finish was long and bitter, with predominantly citrus and pine present. Brew coated the mouth well and had an oily texture.
