Looks like apricot juice.Murky fresh squeezed apricot juice. This brew is intoxicating, the nose is so powerful.grapefruit and pine not to mention HHHOOOPPPSSS and if the above forementioned wasn’t enough,a floral delight that is enough to make me float.Heaven in a friggen bottle. The bitterness is only what remains after my tastebuds are swathed in luciousness from Hops.

Bockyhorsey brings in a winner!
Bottle poured a cloudy orange with a huge, thick and creamy head that looked like off white whipped cream in the glass! and lasted for the entire beer.
Crisp hops and citrus aroma that could be detected across the table.
Flavor is citrus and hops with a nice dry finish.
9% alcohol content is very well hidden .
AWESOME!

Nice golden color with a thin head. Incredibly potent hoppy aroma but not on the bitter side...smells like the zest of a grapefruit with melted buttery brown sugar cascading around it.
The taste is at first fruity, then a little astringent, but balances as it swishes into a malty mellowness. Super soothing...does not bite like I expected. Second only to the Hercules for this imperial IPA.

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2008 BIG hoppy aroma. Damn I love this beer. Great balance between hops & malt. Starts hoppy but finishes smooth & malty. I have no idea what flavors I detect but I do know this is one enjoyable 2IPA. I’d definiteyl drink this again. Damn you Avery! You bastards totally suck for only brewing this for one year.

Bottle, literally bought right off of the bottling line ... couldn't have gotten any fresher. Beautiful rusty-orange clarity with a frothy, lasting head and intricate, fingery lace. Love at first whiff? I think so. Mouthfeel was smooth, soft and thickish, with an assertive presence that lets you know it's there. Wonderful blend of hops provides equal amounts of flavor, bitterness and aroma. Dry-hopped hops really fill the olfactory senses and contribute to the beer's complexity. Notes of sappy pine, sweet orange, grapefruit, tart tangerine, chewy dried apricot, and fresh-cut grass. Nice malt backbone (sweet cookie dough and some toast), with a 9 percent spinal cord. Alcohol was masked by the big hops, and it seemed to meld well ... though it is definitely noticeable (not necessarily a bad thing). Finish and aftertaste were really nice, with lingering malt and hop flavors. Hops built up in the back of the throat and continued to complement the lingering bitterness, well after swallowing. Overall: a hophead dream come true.

Clear orange with a massive bright-white, fluffy head. Head has tremendous staying power and leaves thick sheets of lacing. Thick, yummy aroma: hops, pine needles, apricots, grapefruit, watermelon, fortune cookies, and a touch of alcohol. A very full mouthfeel, pillowy and soft with rather mild carbonation -- absolutely perfect. Sticky, pine sap flavor with underlying malts that shine in the immediate aftertaste. Bitter, sticky, and cleansing hops linger in the aftertaste. Very delicious.

Hoppy, creamy, doughy aroma. Bright hazy amber with slightly off-white head. Lots of visible carbonation. Wonderful lace. Hoppy, floral and sweet flavor; perfectly balanced. Awesome. Tastes like Mendocino White Hawk IPA but a little stronger. A true treat. Too bad it wont be around long.

Tap @ Blind Tiger. Right up there with the really good IIPA’s And now my favorite Avery selection. Gold color, nice head & citrus aromas. Sticky hop taste without being too sweet. Thanks.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Sham (1846) - Seattle, Washington, USA - FEB 22, 2005
Ruby hued amber with a larger forthy head and sheets of lacing. It’s a looker! Warm aromas of biscuits. Fresh hops: citrus (orange and grapefruity), pine, grass, and floral. Sweet malts in the forma of caramel. Hints of mangoes. Flavors are great. Bitterness is first and foremost. The fresh hops come through in the same aspects as the nose. Definately lots of grapefruit. The pink kind. Those mangoes are back again. Tangy palate with a thick and sticky palate. Finishes with citrus fruits. Awesome BEER! Thanks goes to Santa on this one! Thanks Eric!

HUGE hoppy aroma with a golden amber appearance. Big frothy two finger tan head, Nose is all hops with some sweetness, grapefruits, pine needles, mint and apricots. The lacing is absolutely amazing and just coats the glass with sticky foam. The flavor is just wonderful, biting hops on the tongue, but there is a big balancing malt backbone, though the hops definitely dominate. Sweet in the mouthfeel and bitter and dry in the finish. This is a cut and dry example of how a double IPA should taste.
