UPDATED: JAN 31, 2005 Golden in color with a nice presents of carbonation. NIce thick lasting head with small bubbles. Aroma a sweet hops and peaches. Tastes was sweet and hoppy with a apricot accent. Very nicely balance; not overy-powering with hops but still a good strong hoppy taste.

Kills Avery "10". Masks the alcohol contane well, very fruity, hoppy malty and make me happy. Got some nice hints of pine as well as chewy malts. A very nice and delish brew ha ha.. Not much else to say but get some.

Eleven? That’s one hoppier than ten, right?
Pours a hazy copper color with an 18" thick clump of frothy off-white suds. Excellent thick lacing throughout the bottle. Smell the glove to pick up a mild but complex aroma with peach, caramel, and hops both floral and piney.
Solid caramel and toffee malt up front, with licorice coming in at mid-sip and into the finish. On top of, behind, in front, and all around the malt, there’s hops, and lots of ’em. I am knocked out by their exuberance, their raw power - and their punctuality. Pine and citrus mainly, bold and bitter, then also a soft herbal flavor hops. The hops seem to grow in intensity as the bottle drains.
For such a bold beer, the mouthfeel is quite smooth. Medium-full body, and the soft but prominent carbonation spontaneously combusts. Reviewed at a bit cooler than cellar temp in a St Hubbins goblet.
So, are we doin’ Stonehenge tomorrow?

This is probably my favorite of the Avery anniversary beer. I enjoyed the battle between the malt and hops with the malt giving the overall flavor a slightly sweet (but not cloying) edge.

Pours a clear copper color with a small white head that really hangs in there. Has a big hoppy nose full of citrus and pine. Good thick resiny mouthfeel typical of a nice highly hoppped double IPA. Great citrusy hop flavor with a little pine, with a good malt backbone. If you cant stand the hops, stay out of the IPAs!
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 GoBlue (103) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - NOV 28, 2006
Deep hazy orange color with thick slighlty off-white head. Intense citrus aroma with lemons, orange and a hint of grapefruit, some malt hidden under all those hops. Flavor is very malty, carmelly with just a touch of toasty flavors. Strongly bitter and great citrus hop flavor. Great balance of malt and hops with just a touch of alcohol, mostly in the warming finish. What a great beer; ugly in appearance, but tasty as can be.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Pailhead (3435) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - SEP 10, 2004
Bottle: Aroma is virtually all sweet grapefruit with a little pine sneaking thru. Pours a nice transparent amber with about an inch off-white head with fairly good retention. Great lacing. Nice qucik initial sweetness followed by a hoppy and citrusy finish. Some pine in the flavor but just like in the aroma it just sneaks thru. Long hoppy aftertaste. At 9% I expected the alcohol to show a little, but it’s covered up nicely. Unlike some, I like the balance of this beer. I recently had the Maverick IPA with only 65 IBU’s and felt that to be more bitter than this at 90 due to lack of balance. My first introduction to the Avery brewing Co. and I must say I’m impressed. Excellent beer.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 obisbeer (558) - Barcelona, SPAIN - JAN 13, 2005
Deep golden orange with a moderate off white head. Madrain orange and peach syrup nose with Piney floral hops dancing abouve it all. Med weight on the palate withan initial sweetness that is somewhat swept aside as the bittering hops round out the finish. Rich hop flavors with a roasted malt back bone that helps to suppor the massive amounts of fruit and pine. Tasty stuff well balanced and dangerous as the alcohol feels it doesn’t have to make a scene but rather mingle with the crowd. Great beer!
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 meathookjones (245) - Sterling, Virginia, USA - DEC 3, 2004
22oz bomber with a foil covered cap. This one poured out a slightly hazy amber color with a good sized off white head. Retention was fairly good for this type of beer and it left a nice lace about the glass. Ahhh the Double IPA hop attack to the nose is defiantly present with nice citrus and floral hop scents dominating over a bit of malt for balance. The taste is similar to the nose but tamer, there are plenty of hops here to give any hophead their fix. Lots of citrus and earthy notes here with a bit of malt and a good bitter after taste that is less biting than most other DIPA’s. Not very balanced but who cares that’s the style. Mouthfeel is full and creamy and went down fairly easy. Overall a good beer that is a bit more balanced and tame than the typical Double IPA.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 green (186) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 16, 2005
Cellar temp. Mountainous head—stunning to behold. Massive grapefruit, but very fresh grapefruit—important. Super hoppy but not resinous; always impressive. Rich flavors hints of dark fruits. How do you get dark fruits in a IPA, pitching with huge amount of yeast? Anyway, very nice aftertaste. Beautiful to behold and very, very nice to drink.
