COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
15 years of brewing! You know what’s been the best part lately? Tons of experimentation! For the last couple of years, we’ve been working with several strains of brettanomyces (wild yeast). We found one and deemed it the best for it’s tart flavor and funky, fruity aroma. Adding black mission figs for a subtle jammy aspect, hibiscus flowers for an herbal bouquet and hazy sunset hue, and white pepper for a bit of spicy twang, we’ve created FIFTEEN - a unique drinking experience inspired by the wild farmhouse ales of Belgium. Though immensely complex today, more flavor will emerge with time, so throw a few bottles in your cellar for future celebrations. Thanks to all of you who have made our 15-year ride possible! Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, hops, black mission figs, hibiscus flowers, white pepper, and a very unique strain of brettanomyces yeast.

On tap at Flying Saucer. Has a clear amber color and a medium frothy white head. Very good sticky lacing on the glass. The aroma is apricot and light malt. The taste is fruit and honey with a dry finish. A very complex belgian ale from Avery.

Amber colored decent to big head to start. Some tartness in the smell from the brett, fruity, earthy, yeasty. Taste is plainer, sort of bland, light with some fruits and spices. Dry. Maybe it needs some more time.

I don’t know if I went into this with incredibly low expectations due to the very low ratings, but it was far better than expected. Pours orange / copper with a small white head. The aroma has brett grainy funk, spicy / peppery, fruitiness (has the figs listed, but also apricot and nectarine notes), red tea and herbal traits. Medium body with some minor carbonation. The flavor starts with lots of herbal / spicy traits, funkiness and white pepper that is very apparent and also prominent in the finish. The finish is quite phenolic along with the white pepper. As the beer warms more brett is on the taste, fruitiness comes out more and becomes overall more pleasant. This is a good beer now, but I’ll be interesting to see if this ages well at all. The taste feels like it will age, but without bottle conditioning I have my doubts.

Clear dark yellow color. Yeast aroma with a bit of red fruit. Flavor is slightly funky as well with a decent malt body. Spice on the back end and fruit in the middle makes this one a decent drink. Slight alcohol on the end reminds you you are drinking beer. Yeast is good here but the flavors could be a little more complex and deep.

Bottle. Pours clear, lightly sparkling gold with a small, fizzy, white head, diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is average malt (straw, meal), average hops (flowers, grass), heavy yeast (horse blanket, earth) with notes of plastic, bandaids, and apples. Light bodied, thin texture, average carbonation, and an astringent finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness; antiseptic and light peppery flavor. This beer was a major disappointment from Avery. I would not have expected them to filter this beer.

Pours orange/gold, with a white head. Aroma is sweet, with apples, malt, and funk. Flavor is much the same, but less fruity, with yeast and funk. This is an odd one, but not too bad.

Bottle pours hazed orange with a short lasting head and some lace cling. The aroma is of sharp funk, sour apple, and figs. The flavor is quite funky, but in an out of place sort of way. I taste the figs, but not enough. I do taste too much grain that lingers. There are some floral notes. The palate is rich and quenching. If it did not taste like fresh squeezed barley and wheat, I might like it more.

Bottle. Amber beer with a thin off-white head. Light fruity/yeasty aroma. Yeasty, malty, summer fruit and fig flavors. Medium bodied. Flavor turns to grain, earth, yeast that lingers with light fruitiness. Drying ending.

Well I don’t know what figs or hibiscus flowers taste like, but this was interesting anyway. Different funky flavors I haven’t had before is always welcome, and I didn’t think this was that bad. Refreshing and sweet.
