COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
15 years of brewing! You know what’s been the best part lately? Tons of experimentation! For the last couple of years, we’ve been working with several strains of brettanomyces (wild yeast). We found one and deemed it the best for it’s tart flavor and funky, fruity aroma. Adding black mission figs for a subtle jammy aspect, hibiscus flowers for an herbal bouquet and hazy sunset hue, and white pepper for a bit of spicy twang, we’ve created FIFTEEN - a unique drinking experience inspired by the wild farmhouse ales of Belgium. Though immensely complex today, more flavor will emerge with time, so throw a few bottles in your cellar for future celebrations. Thanks to all of you who have made our 15-year ride possible! Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, hops, black mission figs, hibiscus flowers, white pepper, and a very unique strain of brettanomyces yeast.

Bomber from Ledger’s in Berkeley. Pours clear golden in color with a lasting one-finger white head. The aroma is decent, bretty, funky, and floral with light spice. A little catty. The flavor starts fine, with sweet malt, bretty funk, hibiscus, pepper, fig (yeah got these last few off the bottle but can taste them) but ends somewhat poorly, with an acrid apple juice flavor. Decent palate, medium-bodied with high carbonation. Better than I expected, but not great overall.

I was surprised to see this on tap in July 2010 at the Fort Worth Gingerman. The beer pours a hazy gold color with a white head. The aroma is a lot of citrus fruit with some brett character. The flavor is a nice mix of brett, leather, oranges and yeast. Medium mouthfeel and medium character. Not bad.

In the bomber bottle during the 2010 Super Bowl. The beer pours a hazy flaxen gold with a medium white head. It seems very saisson looking and slightly medicinal in taste. There’s a bit of lemon and a bit of quinine. Finishes with burnt hop flavors. It’s good but it’s not great.

Nose is perfume, band-aids and plastic, with just a touch of pear and honey underneath. Taste is very sweet and very oxidized (and this rating was from right after the beer came out and it was on tap); again lots of plastic and band-aids, some apple and pear, touch of honey. Thin watery texture. This is a trainwreck.

22 ounce bottle from Once Upon a Vine, Richmond, VA, on 5/10/10. Pours a clear golden color with a medium offwhite head. Good head retention and sticky lacing. Aroma of brett, caramel, butterscotch, faint dark fruits and citrus. The taste is citrus with a tart brett finish. toasted malts and a faint bit of caramel. Faint spices in the finish. Medium bodied.

Pours cloudy apricot with white head. Nose is fig, herbs and medicine. Taste is fig, hibiscus flowers, white pepper and long medicinal finish.

I’m not a huge fan of Farmhouse Ales but this one would pair nicely with roasted meats, especially German or Belgian dishes. Not too over the top with the "funky" smells and tastes.

Lubiere (6979) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 17, 2010
A hazed blonde ale with a thin creamy white head. Loads of Brett in aroma, flowers, sweet milk, very smooth. In mouth, an Orval like offering, with light lactic notes, mildew and Brett, light fruity notes, black pepper, really nice and balanced. A supeb beer. Tasted with Diogene, GRM, Probstk, and Grant, May 19 2010.

Thick, glowing orange with a bubbly head. Aroma of citrus, apricots, honey, hay, pineapple. Hoppy brett flavor with apricots and honey. Very dry. Figs noticeable as well. Champagne-like and bretty beer that is refreshing and complex. Great.
