COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
15 years of brewing! You know what’s been the best part lately? Tons of experimentation! For the last couple of years, we’ve been working with several strains of brettanomyces (wild yeast). We found one and deemed it the best for it’s tart flavor and funky, fruity aroma. Adding black mission figs for a subtle jammy aspect, hibiscus flowers for an herbal bouquet and hazy sunset hue, and white pepper for a bit of spicy twang, we’ve created FIFTEEN - a unique drinking experience inspired by the wild farmhouse ales of Belgium. Though immensely complex today, more flavor will emerge with time, so throw a few bottles in your cellar for future celebrations. Thanks to all of you who have made our 15-year ride possible! Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, hops, black mission figs, hibiscus flowers, white pepper, and a very unique strain of brettanomyces yeast.

Orange-straw with good, creamy white head / Funky nose of brett and green apple / Light to medium body, acidic yet resinous, fruit, with good, long finish / Funky flavors of brett, green apple, ginko, eucalyptus, white pepper / Not picking up the figs. Very Jolly Pumpkin-like, but less citrusy in favor of vegetal funk.

Bottle in Minneapolis. Light golden yellow appearance with a foamy white head. Somewhat sour, slightly wild (Brett) Belgian ale aroma. Bretty, wild Belgian Saison flavor. Slightly sour, slightly fruity, wild Belgian ale flavor. Slightly sour, mostly sweet Belgian ale finish. Quite nice.

22oz bomber bottle. I’ve enjoyed the Avery Anniversary series from 10 up, 14 being my favorite thus far. I think this one is vastly underrated. Hazy golden-orange color. Pepper and Brett aroma. Complex herbal and fruit flavors amidst the mild sourness. Relatively thin on the palate, very refreshing dry finish. The figs work really well with the Brett taste. Good stuff. Not unlike a Stille Nacht in terms of fruitiness.

Yes, it’s a bit like drinking horse sweat. Yes, it smells like someone let an old goat swim around it in as it fermented. Yes, I’m a little grossed out by the experience... but ultimately quite pleased. You just have to accept that this is a big funky wild ale, and if you’re not up for a weird ride, you probably should leave it on the shelf. It’s a golden beer with a good head. The nose is fruity and spicy with a healthy funk. The taste has bitter and sweet notes with with a lot of fruit (sort of a bittersweet lemon) and twang. In fact, it has a pretty big twang to it. The mouthfeel is pretty great. Lots of funk.

Thick, glowing orange with a bubbly head. Aroma of citrus, apricots, honey, hay, pineapple. Hoppy brett flavor with apricots and honey. Very dry. Figs noticeable as well. Champagne-like and bretty beer that is refreshing and complex. Great.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2008 Pre-Note: The beer is better at colder temps rather than near cellar temps.
Dirty orange color with a bright white fuzzy-looking head. The nose was very nice though maybe a tad too sweet..but it exhibited nice brett notes, lemon-lime, cardamom, white pepper, and jaimaca. Fizzy intro...Somewhat muddled flavors at the start and noticeably more bitter than is usual for the style. The sour brett characteristics are there in a subtle sort of "Orval" way, though this is no Orval. After a while i find myself wondering if the flavors are muddled or if the bitterness distracts you, making it hard to distringuish the different things going on in the flavors...because I feel as though I should really like what’s going, I just can’t break it down to why i like it., This beer is very similar to 3 of my favorite ales, Orval, Burton Bridge Old Expensive, and Heavyweight Chuck...primarily in the way that these beers use the brett profile..unfortunately, i think i need to put this Avery 15 at the bottom of that list...though the more i drink it, the more i am seeming to like it...it’s the bitterness that throws me..I don’t think it’s compatible with the rest of the beer. In Fact, this beer might be awesome in 9 months to a year, when the brett gets stronger and the hops subside...will be cellaring some for sure. I want to add though that I very rarely find something i really like in an Avery Beer...and I think i finally found something i really like...I am just going to need to be a little patient. Note: Even better on tap, less bitterness and brett notes more pronounced.

Kinda funky in the nose, with honey and lemon, yeast and mild sweetness. Medium golden clear to hazy, with white lacing head. Medium watery body with heavy carbonation. Starts dry and mildly tart, funky with some lactic and citrus character. Bretty. Smooth. Very nice Belgian.

22 oz bomber, bottled April ’08. Rating #1,500! For an all-brett beer, not quite as funky as I’d expect, but flowery, with the other aromatics well blended to keep from getting perfumey. Orange, hazy color in my GI Matilda tulip. Taste first shows distinct but not strong black pepper. But the mainstage is still held by a nice, light Belgian pils malt. Some yeast and wheat follow that down, and just a little twang of green apple tart at last. I can believe I’m picking out figs, but only after remembering the taste of a Fig Newton, otherwise, they’re just lending the right bit of extra fruit sweetness. After rating this live, I see other raters have found very funky bottles, but I just don’t catch it from this one. It’s really a nice "anything goes" type of Belgian that I liked.

On tap @ Avery Tasting Room poured a hazy golden amber with a lasting white head. Aromas of horse blanket, leather, barnyard funk, fruittiness, pepper, some light floral notes and a hint of straw. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry lightly tart finish. Flavors of leather, funky barnyard, figs, light pepper and ligfht strawwith a smooth dry lingering funky finish.
This is the best Anniversery beer Avery has made so far! I can’t wait to see how it ages.

wow, crazy smell...American wild ale fits this brew ... very funky, sour, tangy , insane? ... is refreshing and strange but weirdly refined and funky .. Great outside the box thinking that makes me as happy as firing off some knuckle children early in the morning... Very nice stuff!
