COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
15 years of brewing! You know what’s been the best part lately? Tons of experimentation! For the last couple of years, we’ve been working with several strains of brettanomyces (wild yeast). We found one and deemed it the best for it’s tart flavor and funky, fruity aroma. Adding black mission figs for a subtle jammy aspect, hibiscus flowers for an herbal bouquet and hazy sunset hue, and white pepper for a bit of spicy twang, we’ve created FIFTEEN - a unique drinking experience inspired by the wild farmhouse ales of Belgium. Though immensely complex today, more flavor will emerge with time, so throw a few bottles in your cellar for future celebrations. Thanks to all of you who have made our 15-year ride possible! Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, hops, black mission figs, hibiscus flowers, white pepper, and a very unique strain of brettanomyces yeast.

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2011 Bottle. Golden orange in color with a medium sized white head. Maybe a touch cloudy with lively looking carbonation. Big brett presence in the aroma with a nice fruitiness. Slightly sweet flavor with a touch of pepper and spice towards the finish. The brett is also very apparent in the flavor. Very enjoyable dry finish. I had heard good things about this and it did not disappoint. More floral and dry than I remember.

Strong aroma of vinegar, cider, and green olives. It is actually quite nice. Clear yellow, with continuous streams of carbonation, medium white head. Very cidery, with a nice vinous grassiness. Weak traces of apple core and olive remain on the palate. A bit like a good dry cider. Quite refreshing and unique.

Bottle from Total Wine. Pours a thumbnail of white head and a dark, murky golden color. The nose is quite intriguing and a precedent of the flavors to come with notes of fruits, fig, and funky Brettanomyces. Flavors include grapes, more fig, subtle sour yeast, shoebox, spices, and a bitter hops presence in the back. Medium/high carbonation and medium body. I enjoyed this brew thoroughly; it is interesting and complex. I always love when breweries experiment with wild yeast strains and unconventional ingredients. This beer is surely underrated and could possibly be one of my favorites from Avery so far.

Raspberry Kool-Aid soaked sourdough bread nose, some candied flower notes come through as well. Hazy translucent orange/yellow, frothy head, nice lacing. Spicy fruit syrup sweetness, with nice bitter notes, and a funky tartness that rounds out for a very complex and interesting taste. Full body, fizzy carbonation, and a long finish causing one to contemplate about what is happening on the palate. Never really had anything quite like this, it has familiar characteristics to other styles when thought about separately, but the whole is definitely greater than the sum of the parts on this brew. A very well put together beer, worth trying. Something tells me this will drink nicely in a few years...

Poured a cloudy golden color with a minimal head. Aroma was huge on the brett yeast funk, but there were some nice herbal notes in the background. Smelled a bit sweet to which paired nicely with the brett yeast. Flavor was sour beer, but not SOUR beer. Really laid back with the bret flavor, but that may have been because there was such a nice interplay between the yeast, the floral aspects and a subtle yet noticeable spice. This was a really well balanced beer. If you want to give someone who is curious about sour beers a nice easy introduction, you wouldn’t go wrong with this one. Tasty.

UPDATED: AUG 30, 2008 I am surprised by the percentile rating. Anyway happily purchased the bomber. I think one of my favorite things about buying from craft brewers is reading a detailed description (also like stone’s). Pours a dark copper color with a small head. A yeasty, sourish aroma. Heavily carbonated with a citrusy, slightly sweet taste with a sour finish. This beer is for people who want to be of snob status and like sours but cannot fully appreciate the taste. Just enough sour to have pride in your highly evolved palate while be very drinkable beer with subtle and complex flavors.
