22 oz bomber. Aroma reminds me of walking into an old smoke shop with the aromas of candy, sweet pipe tobbacco, wooden floors. Dark body with red tynt to color with tan head and lacing covering the glass. Sweet candy with some spice to add some bite to flavor. Good fruity candy aftertaste on plate with an alcohol body warming. Good Brew.

22oz bomber. This is quite an interesting style of ale. Pours a very dark brown color with a thick brown head, reminiscent of a porter or stout. Aroma of smoke, marshmallow and chocolate. Flavor is loaded with roasted malt, wood and some darker fruits. Pungent hops punch to it. Slightly metallic finish on the palate that kind of turned me off of this brew. Worth a try.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 FoolishMortal (980) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 1, 2007
22oz bottle. Deep dark brown-red with a large rocky light brown head. Some nutty and toasty malt aromatics underneath a heavy metallic citrus and fruity ester character. Caramel, dark alefruit, and choco-roasty bitterness. Prominent hop component, floral and vegetal. Conflicted finish with residual hop bitterness, alefruit, and a dusty patina. Mouthfeel is a heavy medium, somewhat sticky.

Served in my Delirium Tramens tulip glass. Pours place with a light brown head. There is there is some roast, chocolate coverd caramel malt aroma. Floral, perfumey hops sneak past what I’m guess is a bunch of Belgian yeast ester. I think its the yeast the makes up most of the flavor as well. Raisins, cherries, plums. A sharp bitter edge. A little bit of a let down here.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 mds (2119) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 1, 2007
Bottle. Dark brown-ruby body with a large frothy yellowish-white head and oily lace. The aroma has plenty of fruits - orange, pineapple, and some sweet bread. Oily palate with chewy hops and bitter oranges. Not overly bitter though and finishing with pineyness. Pretty good but I didn’t find it to have much complexity.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 tennisjoel (1111) - Rochester, Minnesota, USA - JUN 30, 2007
Bottle. I purchased this for the RBSG grand tasting but this was one of the many bottles that did not get opened that night. Pours a deep red with a marshmellow head. Aroma is cocoa, citrus hops, and maybe some nutmeg or spice as well. I’m waiting for the head to diminish. Long lasting and puffy lacing. Interesting flavor. Smooth and cola like. Alcohol here is well hidden. This is a little like a highly hopped porter. Nothing outstanding her but well done and not the overly sweet brew that Avery sometimes puts out.

Big nose of hops, pine, mountain forest, plus a smoked element in the nose (perhaps a forest fire?!). Smooth but some carbonation. Orange in the finish, some rounder citrus edges. Clear brown, some percolation in the body. Typical Avery contribution.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 NYHarvey (2153) - New York, New York, USA - JUN 29, 2007
UPDATED: JUL 3, 2007 The aroma holds chocolate, bubblegum, candy sugar, molasses and lots of other vaguely toasty and sweet things I can’t pin down. The body is brown to black and holds a two finger thick, lasting, tan head that is craggy and fluffy atop. Burnt brown sugar and molasses in the fore gives it a bitter and sweet note. The middle is huge with sweet molasses and chocolate. Massive malts and lightly hot alcohol notes. Hints of licorice and brown sugar in the finish. Very nice beer!

Looking forward to this for sum time after speaking with Avery..
.Pours the brownest of the browns..
.has at least a 2-3 finger power coppertone head.
..smell is actually quite similar to bigfoot but with a lighter burnt fruit smell profile.
..Taste is of smoke, fig, plum, bitter coffee, lots of dark oddland fruits- interesting to say the least.
..Very enjoyable..
.Smooth as silk, and the alcohol is sooo well masked!.
I think this is worthy of an anniversary brew!

Tallahassee, Fl. - Market Square Liquors - 22 oz bomber. Very dark, leaning to black copper pour with a thick creamy, sticky mocha colored head. Bubblegum and licorice in the aroma with some hints of chocolate. Thick, rich flavor with hints of chocolate, licorice, candied sugar, brown sugar, hints of molasses - brief chicory notes. More malt accented than most Avery offerings - citrusy hoppiness is kept in the background. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy...not to the point of "luxuious" - but nice.
