3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 scrizzz (2218) - Bothell, Washington, USA - SEP 6, 2007
Dark brown, nearly black, monstrous 3 finger spongy head. Smells strong of ashy smoke. The creamy head is a great initial buffer for the syrupy fig, raisin, and bourbon flavors. The finish starts sweet and ends with the sting of warm alcohol. You can feel it in your chest.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Beerdedone (2208) - Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 1, 2007
Bottle sampled. Pours a very dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of caramel, roasted nuts yeast, and some spices. Flavor is caramel, light fruit, molasses, and a hint of smoke with a lingering bitter finish.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dorwart (2158) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - OCT 22, 2007
Nice 1 inch thick head of fine and dense bubbles. Mocha colored. Light carbonation. Big aroma. Can smell it across the table. Ripe fruit, floral hops, bit of roastyness, bit of smoke hidden in the background and some molasses. Color is a very dark port brown. This brew is starting off pretty damn good and looks great sitting in my Grottenbier chalice. Big maltyness in the flavor with some sweet malts, roasted grains, dry bitter resinous hops and a late smokyness. Some herbal notes and spices mixed in there also. Noticable alcohol presence with a nice warming as it goes down. Finishes dry and roasty with a little lingering burnt toast and bitterness. This brew really is not all that sweet in my opinion which is great for this style. A damn solid ASA and one of the better brews from Avery in recent time.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 NYHarvey (2153) - New York, New York, USA - JUN 29, 2007
UPDATED: JUL 3, 2007 The aroma holds chocolate, bubblegum, candy sugar, molasses and lots of other vaguely toasty and sweet things I can’t pin down. The body is brown to black and holds a two finger thick, lasting, tan head that is craggy and fluffy atop. Burnt brown sugar and molasses in the fore gives it a bitter and sweet note. The middle is huge with sweet molasses and chocolate. Massive malts and lightly hot alcohol notes. Hints of licorice and brown sugar in the finish. Very nice beer!

22 oz bomber. Pours a dark amber with mahogany hues and a thick foamy light brown bordering on beige head. Complex aroma of spicy vanilla, molasses and dark fruit. Taste is spicy wood and vanilla with a massive malty presence. Slight detection of molasses and smoke as well. Quite different and a little too much for my taste buds.

Bottle from BevMo. Pours a very deep ruby color. Strong hoppy aroma with a good amount of roasted chocolate and coffee. Some yeasty bubblegum as well. Like a mixture of a stout a Belgian and an IPA. Some dark fruit along with some roasted matls up front. A hint of yeasty sweetness along with a decent amount of hoppy bitterness. Alcohol is well hidden. Good stuff.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Headbanger (2130) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JAN 30, 2008
22oz bomber-A dark brown body with a nice tight tan head which emits an aroma of hops, sweetness, malt, and a little chocolate. Taste of this full bodied brew comes across with malt, slight alcohol, sweetness, chocolate, and malt on the back end. A nice tasting brew but not getting the hops on the back end like everyone else so I don’t know if it is the age of the bottle or my taste buds.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 scraff (2120) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - JUL 7, 2007
Draft @ NYC Gingerman - Deep reddish brown, creamy tan head (great lacing). The aromas were complex with notes of melon, chocolate mint, and brown sugar. Further warming brought soft co-mingled notes of pine, florals, and candied dark fruits. Toasty flavors of caramel, melon, fig, and raisin balance on a piney hop wave. Full bodied, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Love to see creative brewing, and this one certainly hits that mark. Nicely done. Happy 14th Avery!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 mds (2119) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 1, 2007
Bottle. Dark brown-ruby body with a large frothy yellowish-white head and oily lace. The aroma has plenty of fruits - orange, pineapple, and some sweet bread. Oily palate with chewy hops and bitter oranges. Not overly bitter though and finishing with pineyness. Pretty good but I didn’t find it to have much complexity.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 sloth (2101) - Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA - SEP 12, 2007
Small tan head with excellent retention, lacing is sweet, hanging around, very attractive. Clear brown color with ruby red edging. A real looker. Nose is lightly sweet malts, funkily fruity and grainy. Med/full body, chewy and creamy with a slick carbonation. Medium sweet malts, faint chocolte notes, juicey fruit gum, caramel maltiness is great and enjoyable. Sweet? Nahhhhh, just right. Spicey, lightly swet finish. Groovy little brew. Bomber procured @ statelineliquors.
