3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A beautiful reddish brown with a rich, deep khaki-colored head. I didn’t get much aroma, other than a little resin. The flavor is caramel/toffee and some anise, with a big hop presence underneath, but without intense hop bitterness. A nice bite, distinctive, fairly good overall. Reminded me a little of Great Lakes Nosferatu, if only for the hop flavor, though this is a little creamier overall, and lacking Nosferatu’s sharpness (which, by my standards, places it a notch or two below Nosferatu). Recommended.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Had this in the cellar for a year. Poured and tasted in 2008. I let it warm up a bit ~ 56 degrees or so. Pours with a nice nutty-colored head. Great carbonation, tickles the tongue. Fantastic lacing, hint of alcohol on the nose, very malty, chocolate, caramel, almonds, ripe plums, citrus. This sucker packs a punch at 9.5%. Very nice beer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
22 oz. Pours like motor oul. Dark lush body with tan head. Aroma is a complex combo of burnt molasses, licorice, port, and spice. Very complex beer that has notes of cinnimon, clove, licorice, port wine, orange, dark cherries, tree bark, brown sugar, and bitter dark chocolate. A huge complex beer I think will get better with some serious cellaring.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours near black with reddish highlights. Great light tan head which leaves its mark down the glass. Malty nose with a fruity hopped edge. Taste is pretty similar with a citrusy hop burn instead of the hop flavor that is expressed in the nose. Oranges, some roasted nuts, and molasses malts. Boozy and dry finish. Good representation of an American Strong Ale, yet nothing too eccentric or over the top.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown in color with a very lage, light brown head with good lacing. The aroma is of hops, citrus and dark fruits (dates and plums.) The flavor is somewhat friuty with a strong overtone of hops and a hint of apricots; bitter throughout. Not quite my favorite, but overall is a very enjoyable beer

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Dark brown in color with a medium light-brown head. Aroma is resinous hops and caramel. Flavor is malty - caramel, light toffee, and a kind of wierd resiny hop combo. A decent beer, but a littly wierd on the palate being a pine-caramel combination. Finish lingers with both of these flavors battling as they subside...

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Darker than I expected with a satisfying head and aroma. The taste was complex with hoppy undertones and malt/chocolate overtones. One of the better hopped-up dark ales I have tried. Definately a beer which I would buy again.
