pours out dark brown with creamy golden/beige head.
Aroma is just loaded with malts, molasses, dark fruits
Taste really didn’t have too much hops to be noticed. Lots of roasted malts with complex dark fruits presence and underlying notes of chocolate.

Poured a mostly clear very dark amber color with a beige head. Spicy and smokey phenols in the aroma. Some choclate notes as well. The flavor is sweet, fruity, spicy and roasty. The body is medium to full with some alcohol warmth. Somewhat dry finish.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 thedm (4124) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - AUG 30, 2009
This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy with a frothy top finely sized dark tan colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a semi-opaque typically carbonated dark brown colored body. The aroma was brown malt and mild spice. The mouth feel was very tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of malt sweet vinous and brown malt. A wonderful best in class brew.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 badgerben (4116) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - JUN 16, 2007
Dark brown color with a thin head. Lots of vanilla and oak in the aroma with a little coffee. Bone dry malt body with massive wood and coffee flavors. The hops do not stand out as themselves, but as an overall dryness. Surprisingly good.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Grovlam (4108) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - AUG 22, 2007
Bottle. [Courtesy of Papsoe, thanks Henrik] Large and nice looking creamy beige head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Color was lovely mahogany. Aroma of caramel, hops, fruit with some berries and spice. Seams very aromatic hoppy which would indicate a heavy dry hops process. Very full bodied with an average carbonation, dry and light alcoholic texture. Moderated bitter flavor with light sweet notes. Dry and bitter finish. Very drinkable. 15-08-2007
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 5000 (4104) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - SEP 2, 2007
Bottle: Deep brown, cola accents, large foamy beige head, clingy lacing. Bready aroma, slight white/black Necco wafer tinge, minor cocoa powder. Has a candy sweetness that fills the nose, the powdery kind. Quite malty on the tongue, dark, moderate hop presense but without too much bitterness. Somewhat of an odd duck as it is. Big in malts, remains bready through to the finish. Seems like a really hefty American Amber crossed with some sort of Belgian. Picks up a little bit of citrus rind as it warms. I reiterate, this one is somewhat of an odd duck. I am getting some heavy breadiness, dark malts, slight citrus peel, and a touch of anise. Makes for a weird combination. Moderate to full body, moderate mouthfeel. Certainly an interesting beer, but one that just seems a bit confused. Lingering cocoa powder, Necco wafers, and subtle citrus peel. Well crafted, just a bit weird.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 PorterPounder (4101) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUN 29, 2007
Tallahassee, Fl. - Market Square Liquors - 22 oz bomber. Very dark, leaning to black copper pour with a thick creamy, sticky mocha colored head. Bubblegum and licorice in the aroma with some hints of chocolate. Thick, rich flavor with hints of chocolate, licorice, candied sugar, brown sugar, hints of molasses - brief chicory notes. More malt accented than most Avery offerings - citrusy hoppiness is kept in the background. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy...not to the point of "luxuious" - but nice.

Clear brown with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet, caramel and rather hoppy - grapefruit. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. Very nice. 170609
